I remember in high school I was on a class trip to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and I was sitting on a bench outside the ladies room waiting for a friend. There were two women sitting next to me and I didn't pay them any mind until the son of one of them (who I swear had to have been 5 or 6 years old) ran up to her, lifted up her shirt and went to town. I was embarrassed not to mention perturbed by the proximity of some stranger's big ol' boobie a foot and a half away from me. I quickly fled.

definitely. I don't see a problem as long as it's your baby who's looking at your boobs and not the rest of the population.

I was on a bus from San Sebastian to Bilbao and this woman sitting directly in front of me breast fed her child the entire time. It was kind of a different situation tho cos I couldn't really look away, it's right in front of me, so I jammed to an ipod and stared at the beautiful nature of northern Spain instead.

Seriously, get a baby sitter, or stay at home until your kid is old enought to walk around on his own and be quiet.

I love kids, but as one, I never created scenes in restaurants, because I wasn't there until I was about 3ish.

I plan on breastfeeding, and I think doing it in bathrooms is filthy, but I won't do it in public.
In principal, I agree. However, in practive, this is easier said that done. I have a 15 month old who has been going out every since she was a couple of months old. My husband and I eat out once a week (give or take) and she almost always comes with. Because she's been exposed to this her whole life, she doesn't act up. She has never thrown a fit in public, tossed her food, or done anything other than flirt w/ other diners.

And as nice as the babysitter idea is, it's not always practical. Besides the fact that it's pretty frickin' expensive (whatever happened to the $10 a night I got paid?!?). I'm not going to pay some 16 year old I don't know (no relatives in close "drop by to sit" vicinity) $25 to keep my kid while I get groceries.

I'm not meaning to flame or whatever, but being a mother to a toddler w/ another on the way, I'm just sharing a little reality. Before I had kids, I was the queen of "shut the kid up!". I worked in restaurants for years, and dreaded seeing a child. Probably b/c of this, I have been super super careful about my daughter's behavior, and always a little extra b/c I know most servers are hesitant to wait on us.

And I pray that you never have kids.

Cool

I would Love To Breast Feed In Public!

Damn, this is a Natural Force of Nature isnt it?

Some really dissadent Moronics of I DO Good for God are underwhelming!

Damn, there are certain parts of the Human Body that We are all aware of, Penis, Vagina, Breasts.

If you are not aware of these parts, where in the hell have you been?

Just because I believe that children should stay at home until they are old enough to behave?

My godchild hasn't been out in public (except to the doctor) in the entire 7 months she's been alive. That way she can get fed, changed, and such when she needs it and doesn't have to wait until mommy is in a good place. (Since the mommy is polite enough not to flash people in public.) She's been to new places, such as my house and other relatives houses, so it's not like I'm advocating locking them up in a closet; just not in public.

By the way, it's considered public indecency if I show my breast in public. Why is it different for a mother with a child?

Nikki- Maybe get to know a family from church/temple with a son/daughter who would do it, or such? That's how I got all of my babysitting jobs when I was little. Also, you sound like the type of parent that would remove a kid if he/she got upset and if they didn't calm down, you would take the food to go. I am just appalled at the parents that have screaming kids with them and just ignore them and keep eating.
Wow. Just wow.

For real, I strongly dislike babies. All of them. I think they're gross. HOWEVER, even I don't think it's reasonable to keep kids hidden away at home until they're old enough to "behave" -- what does that mean, anyway? Kids tend to misbehave even when they're older. Should they not leave the house until after the terrible middle school years where they're likely to be hormonal and angry? How are they supposed to learn how to behave in various settings and situations if they haven't been exposed to them?

It's great that you respect and appreciate how your godchild is being raised, but the thing is, each parent has a different style of doing things, and I wouldn't be willing to state that any one way is better than any other way. I might think that your godchild is going to grow up to be a spoiled, demaning, sheltered little brat -- which really is irrelevant because what I think shouldn't matter to the parents, just as what you think shouldn't matter to any parents here.

The whole public indecency thing is pretty lame. Are you really traumatized by not being able to show your breasts in public? If not, I don't see why it's a problem for you. If you don't want to see someone who is breastfeeding, don't look. There are plenty of people out there I find unappealing, so I try not to look at them if it's going to bother me.

No parents should ever ignore their screaming kids who are acting up in public. There are plenty of good parents out there who don't do that, and there's no reason why they shouldn't be respected for doing what they do. It's not going to hurt me if anyone's well behaved baby is next to me at a restaurant, and since I don't like babies, I just won't look at it. No problem.

Oh, how I LOVE you, Sandy!

You completely beat me to the punch.

BTW, Kstar:
When people make dumb/rude comments on a semi-public chat board, they open themselves up to criticism.

If you have kids, I seriously want to be there to watch you keep them locked up at home until they are "old enough to behave."

I could give two shits if that concerns me or not. Amy is a close personal friend of mine. Any twat going around calling her "amypussy" won't get away with it without getting something from me. And that's just what you are, honey. A TWAT. T-W-A-T.

That's the best thing I've heard all day. If only we could all do that.

This thread reminds me of the Sex and the City episode where the girls wen to a baby shower in Connecticut and Miranda goes "I saw a woman in there breastfeeding a kid who's old enough to chew steak. You know how I feel about that, if you can ask for it, you're too old to have it."
