Mostly, I call it soda, but if I'm out somewhere I call the drink by name (Pepsi, Coke, etc).

I say soda, but one of my sisters (who is from Ohio) calls it pop and now it doesn't even phase me to hear it both ways. But I do say Pop Tabs, like during our philanthropy we are collecting "pop tabs".

I'm from western PA, so it was always pop to me. I thought soda was just an ingredient in pop or the stuff you put in the back of the fridge to keep from smelling the month-old pizza. Until I moved to Massachusetts where everyone says "soda," and you drink water from a "bubbler"!

And to address the "Coke is a brand" issue...My husband calls all paper towels Bounties. So he spills his milk and says, "Could you grab me a Bounty?" It drives me crazy!

I've said it once and I'll say it again: "Pop" is a SOUND, not a drink. I drink soda...And yes, I live in Indiana, where its Pop (can't help that I'm a native North Easterner and Soda will be forever embedded in my brain).
