Yes, but OTW, not all of us live in the sunny climes of Hawaii..... try -30C (-22F for you Americans) in Alberta in the dead of winter...you need every layer you can get!

You know, in the days of ancient hula, women didn't wear anything under the grass skirt. They often danced topless also. I can't remember when they started wearing the coconut bra!

Mini hijack......

I think I did know that actually, because I actually paid attention on my visit to the Polynesian Cultural Centre! That place is pretty informative. They gave us a spiel on hula, muu-muu and ukulele (and how to pronounce it: oo-koo-le-le, not Yooka-lay-lee....LMAO)

The dude from the Samoan Village at PCC, "Sielu" is a riot. So funny.....apparently he does comedy shows on the side in Waikiki as well.

Thinking of Hawaii makes me hungry for Taro Chips....YUM.

(PS I just thought the hula dancer gif was kind of cute.....)

[Hijacked again]

Oh it's totally cute! If John let us use avatars I would so use it!

I think it was the missionaries that told the Hawaiian women that they had to start wearing undergarments. Boo.

Yup, I think that's where the more modest muu-muu came from. These missionaries showed up and saw all these bare breasted women running around and were appalled.

Seriously, have you ever worn a coconut bra? It's uncomfortable and itchy! Good thing they come in different sizes.

No, I haven't but I can imagine. Coconuts are even itchy just to hold in your hands, let alone having them on your boo-boos.

I KNOW that they will be bought up quickly. My roommate (an undergrad KD) thought they were cute.

But how much more inappropriate can you be?

If I met a girl who wore her sorority letters on her thong, that would turn me on all the more. You can bet she would not be taking that thong home with her. That would have to be a trophy to show my friends, along with a picture of her wearing it the night before.

lol...I'm sure many guys feel this exact way...

Honestly, having letters on a thong definitely is not a positive thing for this exact reason. Imagine what kind of image a chapter would get from something like this!!! Definitely not a positive image!

OMG...who knew Sielu had such a strong following? That's awesome! I haven't been to PCC for a long time, but I do remember Sielu from the last time.

I was cleaning out the closet last night and I found some old Tahitian and hula paraphenalia from when I was a kid. I tried the bra on. It didn't fit.

I love the PCC. It's a bit of traipse to get there, but it is awesome. I think it's very educational and extremely well done.

Sielu is hilarious. I kind of stumbled onto his demonstration at the Samoan Village by accident and my Mom and I were in stiches. The guy is so funny! When I saw him in Hawaii, it was 1993 and I STILL remember him (OTW: I also visited UH-Manoa [still have my sweatshirt from the bookstore ] and I remember that AGD was just starting out there. I remember feeling excited because I knew about AGD at UBC. (Went back to Hawaii in 1995, but did not go to the PCC...maybe it's time again!)

If I am back on Hawaii, you KNOW that I will be contacting you!

Next time you come to Hawaii, maybe the UH-Manoa bookstore will have some Warrior thongs for us to buy!
