Wow, Jenn, it sounds like this potential sponsor of yours can really see you as a member of her organization! That's a great sign!

Am I a bad PNAM??
For real, thats what I feel like. Let me explain: I have gotten 2 invites to 2 events this week from the alum chapter of Group 1-and each time I've had to email the president back and say, sorry I can't come( both events are on a day when I have a 12 hour shift at the hospital 7A-7P)-she was really cool about both, but I feel bad. Then, I got a call from the pres of the alum chapter of my Group 2 inviting me to their next event. I was really excited because I thought it was tomorrow night, but when I called her back, I realized I had gotten mixed up, and it's Sept 17th-so I also had to tell her I can't come (I'll be on my honeymoon out of the country). Of course she was so sweet and understanding about it, and asked me to call her when I get back in town so I can come to their October event. I know both times, each pres was really understanding and I can't exactly change what I have going on both times, but I feel like I'm being a slacker half-ass PNAM!! I feel disappointed in myself, because usually when I set a goal for myself, I do eveything possible to achieve it-and I hate telling people no. I'm scared that both groups will be like-you came to us and wanted this, and now you never come to any events we invite you to. I usually try to fulfill every commitment in my life-and I am commited to becoming an AI-and I hate that I have to keep turning things down!!
I just had to vent, I'm really disapppointed about having to tell everyone no. I don't want them to think I'm not interested/not serious about this/ not committed enough etc!!!

No.
I know you must feel bad about having to turn down two invites to two events with Group #1. But, you're a nurse! You *have* to work those hefty shifts! And really, shouldn't she be giving you a little more advance notice?? If you want to try and make it better, how about you suggest days and times to *her*? How does that sound to you?
As for Group #2 and September 17th...that's your *honeymoon*!! I hardly think that anyone will be mad at you for going to your own honeymoon!
I don't see how having valid schedule conflicts makes you a "bad" PNAM. How about this...maybe you can e-mail each of the Presidents and thank them again for their invitations. Tell them how bad you feel about having to miss out. Tell them you are still definitely interested and that you want to try your best to find a date everyone can agree on.
Don't worry Jenn, I'm confident that you'll get it worked out yet!
PNAM hugs,
.....Kelly

Jenn, (I also pm'ed you)
No you are not a "bad PMAN". The alum chapter I'm currently pursuing knows that those of us in the workplace/careers etc have obligations. And ditto to what Kelly said, due to your line of work and the 12 hrs shifts give them your schedule for a 2wk period via email and / or follow up w/ a phone call.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you can make it to the next events of group 1 and group 2! Its okay to vent and enjoy your Honeymoon next month.

You are defintiely NOT a slacker. I'm a nurse practitioner and do 12s/24s and a crazy combination of days/nights. Does that make me a bad member? No (and I serve at the International level), it doesn't, but it does make me more considerate of others who work non-traditional schedules (i.e., not 9-5, M-F). You'll have a lot to offer and I would emphasize that when you communicate with the AC presidents. YOu have talents to offer but don't have the flexibility to attend things at the last minute (and for me, anything with less than 6 weeks notice IS last minute). Keep communicating with both groups-- it'll work out!
GOOD LUCK
and for those interested-- it isn't Pi Phi... our president lives in Texas.

Hey guys-
I haven't posted in a while because I have been so busy with the wedding, the honeymoon, work, and settling back into real life!!
Anyhoo, I had gotten the fall newsletter for Group 1's events, and have been unable to attend any of them!! Seriously, September's event was the day I got back into the country( obviously couldn't make that one ), October's event I was out of town ( incidentally in the wedding of a member of Group 1's sorority-not from the alum chapter, but an old friend), and for the November event, I could go, but I'm working that night at the hospital so I wouldn't get to sleep beforehand( which come 3 am would not be a good thing)! But I have still been in touch with the president and the one girl who volunteered to be my sponser
( her name is Leigh). Leigh and Iwent for drinks one night- the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't-
and oops, have to run, will finish later!!

Ok, sorry about that!! I had to take a patient for a quick procedure!!
Anyhoo, the AC pres was supposed to come but couldn't make it. But my husband is going out of town for the next 2 weeks , so I've invited both Leigh and the AC pres to my house for some margaritas and Sex and the City! And, I cleared my schedule for the December event, which is making Xmas ornaments, so I can go! Finally!
I'm sort of frustrated that things keep coming up that keep me from meeting more of the members and moving the process along-I feel like I'm at a standstill, but at the same time, I know that this process can take years!!
A funny story here-at the wedding I was in a couple of weeks ago, the bride is a member of Group 1 sorority. At her rehearsal dinner, she had all the bridesmaids come up and do a cake pull-I don't know if you know what that is, but basically there's a cake with charms in it, and ribbons on the charms, and you pick a ribbon and pull! Well, we did it , and the charm I pulled was Group 1's symbol!! I was like, OMG, it's a sign!! (Ok, I'm being cheesy.)
So thats where things are at right now. Sorry there's not more exciting news for you guys!!

Cake pulls are a fun tradition. I did that for the girls that I couldn't ask to be my bridesmaids. That way more people could share in the fun. I made sure to get the sterling silver ones so that they could be worn afterwards.
Anyway, with that reference, I think that I know who your group is. Good luck and I can't wait to find out if my guess is correct!
