The chapters at URI do use release figures. Please do not let a Rho Chi who doesn't understand the process confuse you. In fact I know at URI you are supposed to have gone through formal recuitment as a sister before being eligible to be a Rho Chi. Sigh.

I wish you the best of luck - when do you get invites back??? I hear that numbers are really high and so sororities may have to release women they would have liked to invited back. There are nine great chapters to choose from!! I hope you find a home for you!

I'm glad you had such a good time at your parties! I hope the best for you, and since you don't have Gamma Phi Beta at your school, I'm going to put a good word in for ADPi because one of my greatest friends is an ADPi out here in California! Good luck with recruitment and keep us updated!

Great post Melissa. I am so thrilled you've had a good first round! It sounds like you're keeping an open mind and looking for all the right things in a chapter. Please keep us updated on every detail---you're a fabulous writer so I feel like I'm with you every step of the way!

Sounds like you are having a blast so far! I can't wait to hear where you return to on Wednesday! I do have a special request, would you please consider listing the groups you are returning too? You don't have to say who you dropped, or who dropped you, and can still keep everything anonymous about parties! I just like to see who's still in the running (AXO!) and if not my chapter, start pulling for another fav! Just something to consider! Thanks - and best of luck!

Well, I just picked up my invites. It's a little early but I ended up going there at 10 instead of 11. Anyways....

HOUSE 9 CUT ME!!!

I couldn't believe it!!! I thought for sure they'd invite me back. I'm sooo disappointed. I don't understand this at all. *sigh* Well I guess since I was so excited about this house and have nothing but good things to say about it (even now), I'll tell you which one it was...it was ADPi.

I was invited back to 5 houses in all. Obviously my RC was wrong about everyone getting invited back to all 9. There were a couple girls around me who were, but the rest weren't. One girl was only invited back to 3--I felt bad!

I was invited back to houses 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. I'm super happy about house 2 because I LOVED them, and I also liked 3 and 4. I'm VERY pleasantly surprised that house 6 invited me back, because they're really selective, and I was trying not to get my hopes up for them. I really liked that house (in spite of Jane), but I was trying to kind of convince myself that I liked it less than I really did because I was sure they'd cut me. But they didn't!! Yay! I'm not too thrilled to be going back to house 7 because that was the only house of the 9 that I truly did not like at all. But I will give them another chance and see what happens in round 2.

In alphabetical order, I'm going back to:

Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Xi Delta
Phi Sigma Sigma
Sigma Delta Tau
Sigma Kappa

So I have some great houses to go back to so I can't complain too much even though I am pretty heartbroken over ADPi. As for the rest of the houses that cut me:

1- I'm not surprised about this, because there really wasn't a connection here. I guess the sisters there picked up on that too. But they really are nice girls, and I wish them the best during the rest of rush!

5- I'm a little disappointed about this because it was my second favorite house based on my impression of it. But then again, I have heard a lot of rumors that this house hazes really badly. I really hope those are just rumors, but I have to admit I'm a little relieved I won't have to find out for myself.

8- This one surprised me a lot!!! I thought I really clicked with the girls here. The only thing I can think of is that when I was there, I saw that a girl I graduated high school with, and I've always gotten the feeling that she doesn't like me very much. I know that usually PNM's aren't cut because of one sister, but that may have had something to do with it. This is a GREAT house though, so I wish them the best of luck also.

::sigh:: Well, right now I am just going to look ahead and get psyched for the great houses I'll be visiting starting tomorrow night. I really hope things work out for me!!

It sounds like you've got a great, realistic attitude. It's too bad you were cut from ADPi, but after all quite a few other girls were cut at least as heavily as you, and you're doing great for being a sophomore. Good luck with your remaining five houses!

P.S. Oh yeah, gotta plug AXD! But these houses ALL have something wonderful to offer.

hey sweetie, I'm so sorry about house #9... trust me when I say I know how much it hurts to get cut by a house you really liked... and about being invited back to 5 houses, that's how many I went back to for round 2 this year... and it all worked out! (lol, after a few tries)... just focus on the houses that did invite you back because those are the ones that really wanna get to know you better

::sigh:: I've talked to 7 or 8 girls today that were in my rush group and every one of them got invited back to ADPi. That kind of upset me because it's like, what do they have that I don't? I've been replaying that party over and over in my head and trying to think if there was anything I might have said or done that would have made them not want to invite me back. I honestly can't think of anything...I really thought I fit in with them perfectly. Also, when some of the sisters were double checking to make sure of what my name was before I left, that really got my hopes up. The only thing I can think of is that the girls I've talked to have all been freshmen, and I'm a sophomore. So I'm thinking that's why I got cut, but I guess I'll never know and I have to accept that.

Well that's all I'll say about that. I am disappointed, but it's time to move on. Like I said, I'll be going back to some awesome houses within the next few days. I'm just going to have to take a deep breath, go in there, and show them what a great sister I'll be.

Melissa, don't sweat it. Most of the URI houses (especially a very popular one like ADPi) have to cut dozens of girls after first round. This can include girls that they really, really liked. You're right--sometimes it does have to do with being older, or personalities just not "clicking" with someone. These are things that you can't change, and the right house wouldn't want you to change those things. You will never know what it was that made those houses release you, so try not to dwell on it. If they couldn't see what an asset you would be to their sorority, then the right house will. I am confident that you will find your place in our greek system! Good luck tomorrow!

I'm so sorry ADPi did not work out for you, but Kell097 made some very wonderful points; essentially I believe that everything happens for a reason and you will now go one to find the organization that will be the right match for you.
Best of luck during the next round, I'm certain you're going to knock 'em dead!
