I think it's the community support.

Although I have a love/hate relationship with community gossip in small towns, I love the way we step up for each other.

There were 2 major accidents around this time last year-- my minister's wife was killed in a tragic car accident (right after her last breast cancer treatment!) and then an Amish family was hit at a high speed in their buggy. The father and several children were killed-- and I don't think the driver had insurance. There were a lot of fundraisers held for the Amish family, and not just by the Amish community. As for my minister's family, there were so many people at the funeral we had to open up the Sunday School building and hook up video equipment so everyone could see it.

Well, where I am from, I'd have say that I was close enough to the city to make use of the facilities but far enough away to get some peace and quiet.

8.) Illegal reasons! - ok, so I"m totally not in support of smoking pot. However, last year at Music Mid-Town in Atlanta - this guy was smoking right in front of me. I turned around to his friend and said "Lord, what does he have?". And the guy goes, "oh, its really good pot - you want some" I laughed and said, "No, really good pot is in Kentucky!" B/c that stuff smelled horrid.....and it took him like forever to even act like it was working, he looked like he was straining and his eyes were clear as day. Really good stuff smells like sweet grass! And I'll take my friends advice when they say it doesn't take long to work. So my advice, pot smokers - get your stuff from Kentucky!!

10.) Nat'l Corvette Musuem .....for you fast car lovers
11.) Flatwoods, KY (where I"m from, yea I know don't laugh) - Proud home of Billy Ray Cyrus!!!! (ok, actually he is a really good guy, he paid for the unexpected death of one the girls I went to high school with )
12.) Ashland, KY (city right outside of Flatwoods) - Home of The Judds, primarily Ashley who loves UK basketball!!!

Ok, I'm getting really tired.....add more later.....

COSIGN!!! You have to love Kentucky. You missed one of my favorite things, though, which is the countryside scenery...the green rolling hills, farmland, sometimes horses in the fields, the leaves all bright colors in the fall...ah, now I'm missing my home!!!
And did someone mention UK basketball?

I'm also from the Great White North.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.

Toronto is the biggest city in Canada. It's also one of the most cosmopolitain cities in the world.

We may not have any mountains or lakes (except Lake Ontario), but we have a great night life! And there's somthing for everyone.
Gay Pride, Caribana, Caravan, the Santa Clause Parade (99 years old!), and so much more!!!

hmmmmmmm. I'm moving away from here in two years but...........this place is better than my hometown, so I guess i'll state why.

Here we have an opera house, we have art shows, shakespeare festivals in the summer, ballet under the stars in the summer, two express stores, two VS stores, two american eagles, bed,bath&beyond, best buy, Lazarus-Macys, Williams-Sonoma, Limited, Banana Republic, two Gaps, Old Navy, Body Shop, Lerner, Pet Smart, Posh Salon & Spa( I will SO miss this spa when I move

), the horse farms, Rupp Arena, Commonwealth Stadium, Common Grounds Coffee House, Smoothie King, and Triangle Park(right outside of Rupp downtown). I'll be damned..... like more than I thought! I'm still moving though

How can you rant about KY and forget to mention UK Basketball??!! OK, seriously to add on, other faves of my second home - Kentucky lakes, Rick Pitino, the in-the-dark roller coaster at Kentucky Kingdom - I refuse to call it Six Flags, Mall St. Matthews/Oxmoor Center, and that college basketball team in Lexington ...not Transylvania ... the Wildcats ... thats the name.

Who mentioned Ashland? Or trashland as i like to call it? I grew up there

Glad to be gone.........speaking of the lovely Ashley Judd though, her grandparents and relatives are member's of my dad's country club up there, and they often run for city offices.

poughkeepsie, ny (hometown) is ok. good sized suburb i guess--not huge city, but not little hick town (no matter what we all said growing up, ya never know what a real hick town is til you go away to college in the middle of nowhere!!)close enough to the city--broadway shows, pizza (dont care what you chicago people say--we have the BEST pizza!!!), shopping, YANKEES , central park (how cool is it to have a park in the middle of a huge city?? i swear when youre in it you can hardly tell youre in a big ol city), empire state building, statue of liberty, david letterman, and the list goes on and on. but still far enough away to appreciate it!!

as for school, portales, nm was ok. definite culture shock though!!small small town. good because it had my sisters!!! also kinda cool to be in a town run by the college--we left for breaks and not many people were there. good because you could always find people that you were looking for--towns not too big its not hard to find people!!

i love ny though!!!!!

HOLY CRAp! you grew up in Ashland?? I'm from Russell/Flatwoods..............haha....good ol' ASSland. PM me and tell me which school or such you went too?
