At this time I am very disappointed in the attitudes of my fellow greeks and fellow African Americans. I have viewed the site www.oepi.com and I must say that I am impressed with the fact that they have done something that no other SORORITY had the nerve to do. How many of us would be brave enough to step out on a limb as they have done and asert who we are. I was so shocked that some would have the nerve to discuss how they look. HDIC is dark and what of it? I know some of us have been called tar baby once or twice
I also wanted to know why more Zetas aren't upset that Tau Beta Sigma has the exact same colors while OEPi only has one color. I guess you feel like SGHRO wants to be you in with a Gold accent. I love my Greeks but get off your high horses. We are so busy trying to bash we have forgetting why were created in the first place. I would write more but it is 400 am and I have a job to go to.

Now I understand you trying to make a point, but that quote above shows me that you are obviously trying to start some mess.

to esperance

I was hoping that someone would come on here and break it all down. Thank you so much for stepping up and giving a little history lesson on the board.

no one hasn't been PI

to play devil's advocate.. no one has been politically incorrect. I haven't read any open Gay Bashing (except for the butch comments)..

Every time someone emmulates somebody elses extremely popular anything, it always comes back to this statement..

"We'll, none of these symbols and signs and colors are copyrighted."

That statement has NOTHING to do with being original.

We all commend the ladies for forming an organization to cater to a need in our Greek Community that WASN'T BEING MET.

Also, thanks for the education on the pink triangle. I'm sure a great % of people don't know the history of the symbol (I didn't).

Now, to my fellow NPHC Greeks... there are only SOOOOO many fingers and ways to contort them to create a 'hand sign'. The hand sign thing is kinda ironic to me cause Omegas have a 'whole arm sign' so we don't get much emmulation from other orgs.

To each his own... telling the truth... and shame the devil..

I must agree with Swamp Thing,

No one was commenting about their lifestyle - what a lot of my fellow greeks of the D9 were making clear observations about were the similarities to the African American sororities. Revisit many of the original post and you will see the direction of their cause for concern.

'Ya know, I'm not trying to start anything here and thank you for your historical references regarding this new orgs "triangle"...

BUT....I SERIOUSLY DOUBT that if asked directly about the origin of this "triangle" that these girls be spitting out a bunch of history of its origination during Hitler's rise to power.

It's real cool and all that these girls wanted to start their own sorority and I'd completely respect their setup if they had not BLATANTLY adopted various symbols and signs of other D4 sororites. It seems as if they sat around with a list of our colors, calls, signs and symbols and started picking out which they liked. When they got to the Delta Pyramid, one of them flipped it over and was like "oohhh...that's a cooch...let's use it."

My bad...not trying to start some chit....but probably am.

One more thing...tell these chicks to GET OUT OF THE IVY STANCE...not cute (at least not when they do it!)

Question Question for all

I don't understand why you seriously doubt that the members of this sorority would tell the history of the triangle that dates back to the days of Hitler. Among the GLBT community, the history behind the triangle is known by most people. It's really not anything new. And I agree with esperance who said that because this is a black sorority, that is the only reason why so many people are jumping down on them. Have you all seen a Latina, Asian, or multicultural sorority lately? They have the same terminology as black greeks, same colors, similar hand signs and calls, and they even step, but no one talks about them. Why is that?

zchi is right, most gay people do know about the triangle's significance. I think it is safe to say that this org. has "borrowed" MANY things from BGLO's, but I don't think the triangle is one of them.

I, for one, seriously doubt that they did the "it's a cooch" thing, but I must admit the thought of that makes me lol.

I think it is great they they formed their own sisterhood (and brotherhood?), but I too, think they could have been a TAD bit more original. If not with handsigns, at LEAST with calls, stances, etc.

I think there has been serious discussions around greekchat about that. I'd suggest that you perform a search.

IT HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT...
