Yes the Vancouver fans starting heckling.... but I consider that restrained comapred to what the Detroit fans did during the Canadian national anthem....

You wanna talk about poor fans behavior? Maybe we should reference the detroit pistons fans that booed the canadian nat'l anthem from start to finish, coincidentally on the same day as the funeral for the 4 canadian soldiers (that were killed from an american F16).

Now when dealing with detroit, i jeer them just as i hate the other big money spenders like colorado and new york. These teams are the worse for going out and more or less stealing players from teams that can't afford the ridiculous salaries that some of these athletes are being paid.

I support the Ottawa Senators. This is a franchise; that despite incredible fan support, great corporate sponsorship and excellent management in drafting, developing and trading players; is at a considerable disadvantage because of greater economic circumstances of a small market base, low Canadian dollar and unfair tax structure. I stuck with this team 10 years ago when they were amassing 33 points a year and continued to ride-out all the bumps that came along the way. 8 out of the 10 teams with the lowest payrolls did not make the playoffs this year. By all logic, a team with ottawa's disadvantages should not be able to compete, let alone make incredibly smart business decisions year after year (Alfreddson was drafted in the 5th round for anyone who doesn't know).

26 out of the 30 NHL teams lost money last year, who do you think is contributing to the downfall of the league? The team that refuses to pay a player who demands more money even though he is still under contract, or the team that goes out and buys 5 or 6 players in one year?

i'll say whatever the hell i want about detroit. how's that sound.

Sounds like you have an attitude problem and are pissed off about a lot more than a hockey team.

Lil_G...don't forget that the Rangers and Stars, Numbers 1 and 4 on the payroll list, ALSO did not make the playoffs...it's not about the payroll...it's about the desire to win the cup.

What are the players paid for playing in the playoffs? Nothing, unless as a team they win it all....that's what I love about the hockey playoffs.

I'd love to see Ottowa do well - without Yashin, they might go farther this year...I've never seen a player single-handedly choke an entire team like that before...the Islanders are going to learn that one the hard way as well.

I think what Lil' G is touching on is the fact that the canadian dollar cannot compete with the US dollar and if US hockey team price tags keep going up ours will have to as well. And there are low budget teams this year that made it to the playoffs, but you also need money to run the hockey club overall - and this is what Canadian hockey fans are worried about - if the 2004 decision goes the wrong way, all we may be left with is Toronto.

Take for example the Winnipeg Jets - not a bad team, great fan support - probably the best in Canada, but the franchise could not generate the funds - so the Jets became the Coyotes...

I hope the Liberals or whoever will be in power over the next couple of years will reintroduce the idea of the government putting some money into our teams - I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going to that

Not that anyone cares on this thread...being all obessesed with the canucks and such - but my devils won again - playing like i'm used to...but this home advantage thing sacres me ..... we gotta win an away game - NOW! lol ---

I just like to see the wings lose, because it's teams like them and the rest of the big spenders that are killing the game. There has to be some incentive for fans in the small markets to support their team, so i cheer for the little guy and not the team that's won x amount of cups in x amont of years.

Just seems like you haven't attributed any respect to the canucks organization either, if when detroit won their last game you complained about the penalty shot...Why? did he score, what's the point?

On the contrary, I have made no derogatory comments towards the Canuck team...if you go back and look at my posts you'll see that I've complained about the ref-ing and the heckling fans, but no comments about the quality of the team. They played well in the first game and capitalized on the Wings crappy play during the second game.

My point is that whether Bertuzzi scored or not, the shot should never have taken place at all. It's terrible calls like that which can sometimes win or lose games. The refs are there to regulate fair play, not to (possibly) effect the scoreboard.

LeslieAGD, it looks like you could use some help holding down the fort for Detroit out here. I'm used to it, being a die hard Wings Fan living in Denver, Colorado, enemy territory. Needless to say, my brothers kept rolling their eyes at me today as I walked past them in my Wings jersey while they were wearing their Av's stuff.
I was mad that the tonight was the first time they did not broadcast the wings game in CO, had to listen on the radio. But indeed it is a new series.

All bow down to Stevie Y and his Wings. I don't care who they "bought" in the offseason, the wings belong to Steve Yzerman and he is the driving force. He is playing harder than most of those guys out there, plus nursing his injury still. He rocks.

And to all those who like to criticize the bandwagon fans, I live with many Av's bandwagon fans. For the record I was raised for half my life in Detroit and have been a faithful for as long as I can remember.

With that said, I'm going to bed and I can't wait until Thursday night.

The red wings are like the yankees of hockey, they spend on whoever they want. I hope Colorado beats them in the west semis though Detroit should sweep them. All wings fans claim they have liked them forever but c'mon, I bet none of them know who Jacque Demeres is and what he did for Detroit in the middle to late 80's.

As for the pistons fans booing the canadien national anthem...what about the incidents where canadiens were burning american flags in the streets after Canada beat the US in the gold medal game?

In the mid-80s, I was five years old. Sorry, I've only been into hockey since I was thirteen, but that's still almost ten years.

This is the last thing I'm going to say about fans and then I'm going to try not to comment anymore...no one has perfect fans, last night the Canuck fans threw bottles, wigs, and other things onto the ice after the empty net goal, hitting players and other fans. Canadian...American...it doesn't matter, fans get worked up, out of control, and do stupid things. It's called group mentality.
