Smart girl!!! Enjoy your time at "The Office", as well as a fun and classy Fake Patty's on Saturday. Hope to hear good news soon!

Time for an update!

I went to The Office tonight for their ice cream social. I had a good time but didn't click as well as I did with Parks & Recreation. I got to go on their house tour and meet their president but I felt like their house could have been any other sorority, there wasn't anything special. I did like them but I definitely liked Parks & Recreation more.

One thing I am curious about, what if The Office contacts me first and offers a bid? I definitely think Parks & Recreation is going to contact me after what their recruitment chair said but I don't know what to do because I don't want to say no to The Office unless I know for sure that Parks & Recreation isn't going to offer me a bid.

What should I do?

Chapters usually give you at least 24 hours to accept or decline. You can politely tell them that you need to discuss the financial commitment with your parents. That will buy you some time. If you need more time, tell them that you have made appointments with other chapters who contacted you before the bid was extended. Good luck to you!

I don't know about this. I wouldn't lie. What happens if she was offered a bid tomorrow by The Office, told them she needed to discuss finances with her parents, then was offered a bid by Parks & Rec the next day and was seen celebrating with them shortly after by members of The Office? I can't imagine they'd be too happy. No one wants to burn bridges on day 1.

I would have needed to discuss accepting a bid with my family to double check it was ok to take on that type of financial commitment. On a large campus, we didn't see COB bid celebrations. She is on a large campus, if my hunch is correct. If she is offered a bid by both she will have to tell one chapter she accepted the other's bid. As long as she's polite, I don't see any bridge burning. And no one has to accept a bid right away.

Pictures/social media?

Just saying.

I just think she just has to say she's keeping her options open and she has other events to attend.

She should tell both she needs to discuss it with her parents. Then she needs to decline one by saying that she was honored to be offered bids to two different groups. After talking with her parents, she has decided to accept AAA's bid. Many thanks for the opportunity to get to know you and your sisters. It was so much fun! I know we'll continue to be friends.

Goodness, ladies, there is always a proper way to decline an invitation.

And unless dues are publicly posted online, there's no way to know which is the more expensive. It's not the best reason but some people do choose one group over another because of dues.

I just said that she should tell them she needs to talk with her parents. I didn't say about what. That would be gauche. Seriously, one needs not air one's personal laundry. Just simply say - I need to check with my parents, I need to think it over, I need to pray about this, whatever vague polite comment will do.

(clutching my mama's double strand right now!)
