I liked the twirler and the two piano players' performances best. Miss Iowa (third) was my favorite of the tap dancers.

I don't think that's what Iowa intended to say. She said recreational when she meant to say medicinal. Most of the interview answers were pretty bad, imho.

I'm on team Miss Wyoming. She played the piano piece that she composed beautifully.

I was actually really impressed with the tap dancers, surprisingly--not at all with either of the pianists (being a pianist myself)--really bad technique on Miss Wyoming; like I wanted to go see a chiropractor afterward (your pinkies shouldn't look like they do when you're sipping tea--that is a really bad sign and usually means your thumb is locking up). Miss SC had fewer obvious technique issues but I wasn't a fan of the arrangement.

This probably isn't taboo for the Miss America Pageant since I've noticed it previously during talent competition, but did Miss South Carolina use a pre-taped overlay of piano music while she played? I was hearing piano-played notes she wasn't even hitting during her performance.

And what is the name for that performance technique--making the judges believe you are playing ALL the piano notes they hear when some of it is actually overlaid piano music playing in the background with the orchestra.

Hmm, I'm not sure if there's a name for it when it refers to instrumentalists--it seems like it would be analogous to lip-synching, right? Gross. At least Miss Wyoming didn't do that, but the fact that her technique will land her at the chiropractor/physical therapist within a few months might make up for it...
