Unhappy

Soror, any laughs, however, should have a tinge of sadness to them.

I'm glad to hear that the other black kid's mother was pissed, but I hope it's a wake-up call for her.

I don't have children (yet) but I did wrestle some with identity issues when I was little. I have vowed that no child of mine will go through what I went through.

The same thing happened to me in 4th grade.

I have four little cousins growing up in an almost all white suburb and my heart hurts for them. The other day I took my little cousin to the bus stop when I was visiting them. THe other little white boys completely ignored him. (I remember when that was me too).

THey had an incident where one of the little boys told him that he was dirty because he was black. THe REAL kicker about that one though, the little boy who said it was with two other boys, one of whom was black (they told him he was different ). My cous's mom called the principal and parents with the QUICKNESS. She said that they were all very, very angry about it, ESPECIALLY the mother of the little black boy.

My cousin and her husband both grew up in schools that were mostly black, and they are sort of at a loss as to how to deal with this situation. I fee like in our family I am really the only one here who can relate to what my lil cous is going through and there isn't really a way that I can make it better for him. All we can do is love him, teach him to love himself and hope that he makes his own way...
I will never forget this. This little Blond Hair Blue Eyed Trailor Park Living little boy name Daniel Smith. He and I were friends. We were sitting down at recess one day and he says to me, "Your skin is dirty and mine is clean!" I was like, "Boy shut up, you don't know what you are talking about!" And we continued to play!

Angry More madness

Now, this stuff is becoming like a firestorm, and feel free to tell me to cease posting it.
I would put it on the greeklife thread, but that has become a hot mess that I don't care to indulge in. This just came over a Yahoo! group I belong to for NPHC, and it was posted by a professor at the University of Louisville:

Brothers, Sisters, Friends, and Others:

Everyone should know that the happenings at Auburn University are not isolated. On the very same night, members of Tau Kappa Epsilon here at the University of Louisville engaged in the same type of activity. In the case here, white members "blackened up" and wore prison outfits and pimp gear.
One of the five black members of this frat even attended this "private" party as a klan member (I know, how sick have we become?). The most disturbing thing here is, as of yesterday, the University's administration had not responded to this thing. At least Auburn got rid of their fools quickly and extended the usual symbolic apology. We have had to take matters into our own hand here and will have a student gathering next
Wednesday and have demanded that the Vice-President for Student Affairs here:
1) Bring the entire chapter of TKE before the people and apologize;
2) Suspend the frat; and
3) Identify the members who did this and expel them for at least a semester. The struggle continues.

And his parents need to have a beatdown, too.

Does this boy have no self-esteem at all?

I say, raise some hell...email U-Louisville, and Ole Miss, get this stuff taken care of. That's what I plan to do. ATO and TKE's offices, too.

The Greek Life board is just filled with bitter people...I knew affirmative action would come up on the board, and it has NOTHING to do with some drunk Alabamans posting their little Halloween pictures up on a website. I plan to stay away from it, because nothing's getting said, except, "I'm uncomfortable. Let's delete this." I just heard an amazing speech 2 months ago how in order to truly learn, one must often be put in an uncomfortable situation. If only those people would learn, instead of making up excuses...

They won't learn, sorry to say.
And that's why I'm in this room and in the Alpha's room discussing this.

You're right. People need to step outside their comfort zones. If the topic is making them uncomfortable, then obviously there is a real problem that needs to be addressed, and they need to "start with the man in the mirror, and ask him to change ways".

Unhappy

Sad to say, I 'm not surprised by any of these incidents...attending a PWU, I've learned quickly that people just don't THINK. At the Univ of TN last semester, an art student thought it would be, I don't know, "artistic?" to hang nooses from a tree by the student center. They got a slap on the wrist by saying that they didn't see the big deal, the sad part is, I don't think they realized how insensitive they were being. Obviously these guys didn't realize how in the wrong they were, or else they wouldn't have taken pictures or gone to a public place.

Ditto!!!!! I heard it on the news then got the information regarding the total disregard for human diginity and greek life from those students via email. It is such a shame that no one out of all of the students that appeared in the pictures seemed bothered by these horrible actions. I would go on but I just get angry! Greek love to you all!!!!!

It will only get worse

This s**t is only going to get worse. I mean... the djs and journalists who disrespected our deceased sister Aaliyah really have not been punished... what makes people think that these white frats will get "full punishment" by the books??? Come on now black folks... We've been in this God-forsaken country for nearly 500 years and our captors have not had "full punishment" by the books because THE BOOKS WERE WRITTEN BY THEM! We should see in 2001 that this white racism is getting more vicious!!! Most of us have lost the fire from the Civil Rights era... all cushy cushy in "higher education" and so freakin' stuffed up with our "MA degrees and Ph.Ds" it's a damn shame. We are so complacent. White folks don't fear us like they once did. My mother is always telling about the days in the '60's and '70's when white folks were scared to look at us good (especially after "Roots" came out!!)!! Now they know the majority of us have become "punkified" and it's sad. No punishment is good enough for these young pale punks, but an ass beating by members of Omega Psi Phi and black people in general. If you all recall years back when the white boy went over in Asia somewhere, got in trouble, and was cained how piss-whipped he looked afterwords!!! (totally cracked me up, even though I was a young tyke in middle school!) That's the way them punks at Auburn U. need to look... pissed whipped and pathetic with bloody gashes all over them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not going to stop here, family. Yeah, they were suspended.... so what? Suspensions don't last forever! The memories of a good-ol' black African ass-beating lasts for eternity.
Blacks must RECLAIM the respect that we have lost after becoming "soft" and "complacent" in the 1980's!!!!!!!!!

I apologize in advance...

but I haven't read ALL the posts, so forgive me if this has already been brought up.

Me and CT4 were talking last night, and we realized that this could not be a coincidence. These parties are like the 9-11 attacks, they had to be planned together. What are the chances, really, that this is a big cowinkiedink? I mean, Halloween 2001, at least THREE schools have these parties and these costumes??? Come on, now. I think they were on the internet or the phone or snail mail or somethin gettin all this together.

And you know what, if it was, these people have too much time on their hands. How do you have time to plan racist activities? Don't you have some damn homework you could be doing?????? Some service for your org? Raise some money for your philanthropy? But you got time to plan some ol' racist mess. Priorities, I'm tellin you.

What yall think?

Re: I apologize in advance...

I am veeeery leery of conspiracy/destiny theories in general. I think that people often use them as crutches for beliefs that can be proven no other way (not you, just a lot of folks- I know you got that 9/11 Nostradamus e-mail, right? I threw a damn fit when I got that).

BUT that said, you have a point. While I doubt that any of these guys had the brainpower requisite ti mastermind some sort of devious plot, it is conceivable that they knew one another some way and just talked about it and all thought it was funny.

WHY would they put together a conspiracy like this one, when they must have known that when it went public it would only hurt them on a personal level? IT's not as if they actually lynched anyone, or tried to physically assault anyone (as compared to the mental assault when I saw the pics...).

I love conspiracy theories, LOL. I am ALWAYS looking deeper into stuff than I need to, lol. I always think, oh naw, there has to be more to this than there telling, lol.

But you make a good point. Someone probably did share, and they thought it was cute, so they did it too. I can see how that might happen.

Them was some ig'nant @$$ punks. Make me have a potty mouth, lol. Gotta blame it on somebody, lol.
