			CONGRATS!!
I'm so intrigued at the recruitment system on your campus; it seems like in this instance at least it's done it's job, so go enjoy Bid day!!!

 | I agree. I can not imagine it would work on my campus. I think you would have tons of girls showing up to some parties and not showing up at others. Did I read correctly that even if your not invited back you can just show up? How do the Chapters know who is coming and how many? Did I miss what college this is?

At many, many campuses with a more laid back rush, the only "invite-only" event is pref. Not knowing how many is coming really isn't a problem because rush simply isn't that huge. There's only one party for each group (i.e. AXO only has to do their philanthropy day party once, not 10 times like they would at an SEC school). Sometimes groups may specially invite women they are more interested in, but even if you don't get an invite you can still come.

victoriana - did you get multiple bids to choose from or did you fill out a pref card?

Congratulations, Victoriana! How exciting that you are a new member of Alpha Sigma Tau's alpha chapter! I am very intrigued by your school's recruitment style. It seems like a relatively low stress way for the PNMs to get to know the chapters. |

Congratulations on your bid to AST at Eastern Michigan, my alma mater (I knew before DeltaBetaBaby posted it)! I hope that you enjoy your time in EMUs Greek system as much as I did, some 26 years ago! I was there when your chapter was a local sorority interest group and was an advisor to Alpha Gam when AST picked it up and recolonized. You are in a chapter that is rich in history on our great campus.
Say hi to Theos for me (when you're 21, of course).

 | I haven't worked directly with my own chapter in a while but I did work with Wayne State in Detroit this year and they do some similar things. This is NOT a big Greek school. As she had noted, there are 20-25K students and about 400 women registered for recruitment. That's actually a lot if that many really went through. When things were done more formally, quota was usually between 9 and 12 (so 81-108 women placed) and Total was 55 last year. No Quota is listed so I think they've abandoned the quota concept altogether. Most chapters were doing COR too. At Wayne State, the parties are more like Open Houses the whole time with no real start or end time and it's up to PNMs to spread their time around. THAT makes rotation very difficult and it is true that you could end up with 15 PNMs present at one point and 85 at another, but it somehow seems to work out. I think EMU has a little more structure to their parties than Wayne State did this year. Wayne State even had coke dating during a one week break in the middle of the more formal (although informal) recruitment events.

Their bid day events started at 3 pm so I think she's out with her new sisters now

Thanks for the love everyone!!! To answer a few questions: I did get multiple bids, but I knew the second I opened them where I wanted to go home to. As for the parties, there were a few where it seemed packed and the PNM : sister ratio seemed like 3:1, but I was at many where it was more or less equal, and just one where there were hardly any PNMs.
I had soo much fun at bid day celebrations and I can say without a doubt I am SO proud to be an Alpha |

			Congratulations!!
You have an unusual recruitment structure, I have to say, but it obviously worked out for you.

(btw, Stargate SG-1 is one of my favorite TV shows )
