All i came on this forum asking for was for any known Non collegiate sororities that were african american or multicultural based. I got straight to the point with what I was asking for. I started recieving insults because all i stated was i wasnt looking for anybody to praise me but i felt it was a little off topic as to why people were asking me about my education. If i would have gotten straight forward replies you guys wouldnt have had to notice the defensive side of me. I can ask people to pm me as i please especially since whatever i post i seem to get an ignorant response. you guys have nothing better to do with your lives but taunt people and thats not cool at all. My previous financial situation, my past college experiences, or anything of that sort has nothing to do with what im askinf for now. Thats why i asked SigmaDiva to pm me, she seems to be more content then the rest of you all, maybe if i explain to her what im looking for she will help and not criticize me

That's all well and good, but what was it about the sororities you found while researching that didn't appeal to you?

Why won't she answer my question? Was it the cow thing, cuz if so, I can't be held responsible for what goes through my mind. My thoughts are very much on point its just that when your trying to get a point across to people you sometimes rush what you need to get across and you get cows... It happens to everybody!

Thats the reason why when I had to leave college due to finances i didnt just sit around and work some minimum wage job, I actually got up and started a small business which is doing very well and Im finishing up my college degree so I can expand what sucess I have already established. I have what it takes to become greek, its just that I dont take crap from anybody. I understand that there are rules and regulations that I have to follow... we all do... especially when entering greek life. But you all are NOT going to be apart of the organization that i wish to join and I will probably never meet any of you face to face. So for you all to sit around and criticize me is irrelevant because my standards and your standards (if you all have any) are the complete opposite. Like i said before im a 26 year old black female thats full of spunk and new life... If you all arent going to congratulate me on what i have already accomplished or offer some advice then do yourself a favor by not commenting on my post.

Here is an org that one of my dearly departed SGRho sorors was a member, Iota Phi Lambda. I really don't know much about it, other than the little I knew from her. It is an AfAm business-woman's sorority. AFAIK, it is non-college based, but you may need to have a degree (BA/BS) to be a member. http://www.iota1929.org/index1.htm

It was the way you asked, and how you responded when we asked for more detailed information about you. No one is trying to attack you, but you seem to be a bit 'rough around the edges', not very polished.
I've been on this board a long time. I've seen aspirants achieve their greek org of choice because they came here humble and ready to learn. I've also seen aspirants crash and burn and not achieve membership based on their rude behavior. You are seriously leaning towards the latter.
I get that your desire is strong, you just need to learn how to ask and LISTEN!!! (Or, read in this case )

Actually it does, a great deal!!! With the NPHC, we don't openly speak at all about membership selection as compared to the NPC, but the same basic advice applies: you must find the org/chapter that is the best fit for you.
Your financial situation is important to know, because as a GLO member you will be expected to not only pay annual dues, which can be in the thousands, but also financially support other programs sponsored by the org/chapter. To be a member in good standing costs money. Greek membership is not cheap!
Your past college experience is important also because it can be used as a strong indicator of achieving goals and following through on commitments.
Greek membership is purely voluntary. Our orgs are only as strong as it's members. No one wants to be part of a sagging, sorry group. We all want to know that each of us can pull our own weight. That is why character presentation is so important. If all we had to go by for you, DeltaAngel4life, is how you have presented yourself so far, then I would not recommend that you seek greek membership. You are not ready. I think that is what some have been trying to tell you in their own unique way.
And, I usually don't PM people. I like to keep as much stuff on the board, with the exception of some sorority business.
I wish you all the best in your quest.

I don't understand why the OP couldn't have said something along the lines of, I'm working on my Associates degree from a community college and I don't believe I'm eligible for NPHC membership, but I'm looking for a similar type of experience. Does anything like that exist?
As an NPC member, I can't answer that, but I CAN see as an outsider that anyone attempting to give an answer would have given up long ago. Based on what you're saying, I could say join Junior League or DAR. I can only GUESS this isn't the kind of membership you're after because you haven't explained what you are in fact after.
There are literally thousands of organizations you can join. IF you can explain what you wanted to achieve in membership, someone might be able to suggest something more specific. Using PM is contrary to the benefits of this site. You post a question to the entire board so that many people can offer suggestions. If you don't feel comfortable describing your background or motivation with the public, asking a question on a public forum seems not just useless but an invitation to frustration. And there you are.

Hopefully you'll take my soror's advice because you did not take mine regarding this message board. Iota ( http://www.iota1929.org/index1.htm) may be a good fit for you right now and you can still pursue membership in an NPHC later if you choose. Some of my chapter sorors are also Iotas. As far as I know, you can be a business woman/entrepreneur (which you say you are) and pursue membership. Iota also does have some collegiate chapters. They do a lot in the community and are a great organization.
There is also Sigma Beta Xi ( www.sigmabetaxi.org) founded in 2003, which has both community and campus chapters. Some of their members have been on gc. I don't know however if this one would be considered a general/social sorority or not. You cannot be in two general/social orgs at the same time and the NPHC orgs, although big on service, are considered social orgs.
Okay, I'm done being nice now. Just waiting on my reprimand from DrPhil. I know.
