I know that sorority members at my school were not to attend fraternity parties during recruitment.
The fraternities here are generally open to non-Greek girls as well, so even if we weren't present, they didn't have a total sausage fest going on.
So, you'd rather have a sausage-fest during recruitment instead of waiting like a week?

I can't believe I'm helping a fellow Greek. Thankfully y'all likely will not be stealing any of our rushees, so I can give the advice.
Whats the overlap between girls and guys. There's a week that the guys cant be there, and I think rush starts on September 12th, so that puts the 5th. When's girls rush? There's just not a lot of time. I wouldn't throw a real big rush party, rather just throw a bunch of small parties wherever ya'll have your main base house.

I think it is just because we are finally in a house and he thinks it will make our presence known, but idk. Im just on social committee and told to think of party ideas.

Again, I'm graduated...but I'm not terribly sure what the Greek consensus is this year on whether or not to have mondo rush parties or just smaller ones. I kind of think the shift will be towards smaller ones.
Bit off-topic, have you heard the numbers coming through this year? Last year was pretty high, I was just wondering what it was this year.
edit: And VS, every party at the UofA has a theme at least if it's registered...which this one would be.

BuchDroke has consistently been fraternity homeless housing for quite sometime. The only year it wasn't was my freshman year...I think. Maybe sophomore year.
When SAE was redoing their house in... maybe 2004? they lived there. They had the most violations of any floor living in University housing ever. Phi Delt lived there last year. There was rumors of another fraternity living in BuchDroke this year besides Sigma Pi, but I think they're moving to Gibson in the Spring.

You mean that fraternities live there while they're redoing their houses? BD used to be an awful place--mostly engineering and grad students, especially foreign ones, and it was dark inside and smelled really weird.
The only group I can remember moving out back in the day was Kappa Sig--the word was that they'd torn up their house so for the year of rebuilding, they moved to Skull Creek Apartments down on Leverett and they really ripped that place up.

We are planning to live at buch droke until we can build our own house, but it is a great thing to have until we can build our own house.
Also Vs, UofA does not require a theme, but the greek system expects parties to have a theme. Also i was only using pros and hoes to show how terrible it would be with only guys. Not to degrade women in any way.
|
I guess I have very different expectations, I expect a party to be fun and memorable, regardless of theme.
Oh you could have the party with guys but it would take on a whole new meaning. Men can be hoes too. Chicken Hawks & Jocks, CEOs and Gigolos, Brokeback and Bareback, Pirates and Cabinboys and so on. See, better no theme than these themes?

I swear something was passed here in the past few years that prevented parties with hoe and other things degrading to women or objectifies them as themes from being held, but I can't find the document online. I find it strange that a theme is required, or maybe it is just supposed to have a name like "XYZ Spring Fling" which is vague other than XYZ is having a party and it is spring. To be critical of my own campus there's something to be said where we are against treating women poorly, but white trash or hood/bling parties have been okay, because there's no objectification or insult there either

we used to call it detox pong. or another variant red bull pong. but nowadays greek life wont allow cups at events. At first it started as no red cups at official/public events/philos/rush/etc. events. now its gone so far to include all color party cups; but excluding clear cups and fast-food related cups.

The clear cups is probably so you can tell at a glance if there is beer in there or not.

you are correct sir. all other manner of party cups were banned bc it presented a bad image to passersby. understandable but still a pain in ass when you plan food events.
