If you don't like what someone says to you, put them on ignore. IGNORE. IGNORE. And when you find you have too many people on ignore, it's time to take a step back and breathe.
If you recall, it was Daisy's post that derailed the thread by making a personal attack about getting a hobby, but that is the standard method of operation of your group. If you're cornered in a discussion, you start launching personal attacks and then blame the person you attacked for starting it. http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=81136&page=41

If you don't like my posts, you're certainly welcome to follow your own advice and ignore mine.

And.. just a point... we don't break wood in judo.

Now, let's return to the discussion at hand without this nonsense, shall we?

That's why I told you to go take up a striking art I know you don't, but you should. Trust me, axe-kicking through 5 inches of pine does wonders for the soul.

Look, I'm going to try and put this nicely. Not everything everyone says is a personal attack. The rest of us, for instance, can just brush off being told to get a hobby. If it bothers you so much, ignore the user, ignore the comment and stick to the topic at hand. Ever heard the expression, 'please don't feed the trolls?'

I am now going to back off from this thread until I read something that I know I can reply to in a productive manner.

Whether one had thick skin or thin skin is not the issue. Launching personal attacks in an attempt to derail a thread are.

Now.. back to our discussion on AI. Do you have any comments on my previous post? I'll repost it here for you. I'm interested in your opinions on this:

Quote:
One point that bothers me is the assumption being made that women interested in becoming a member of a sorority following college automatically know the proper protocol.. they often don't.

Please keep in mind-- all of you posting your concerns about this forum are involved in the Greek system. Most of you understand what is proper and what isn't as far as AI in your individual GLOs.

The premise that someone who wishes to belong to a sorority should make friends with someone else in a sorority is not always realistic. In my geographical area, sororities are virtually unknown. I have no family members who have ever been involved in the Greek system, nor do I know anyone at all (except one D9 woman who I work with, and one friend who I recently discovered is an alumna from a local) who is in a GLO. So.. who would I ask my questions of? If I lived in the south where GLOs are more common than not.. sure.. no problem. But I don't. And neither do a good portion of the population.

That's why I came to Greek Chat. After my paperwork had begun.. and had stalled.. I searched and searched and searched on the internet for some info about the process. I was absolutely delighted to find somewhere I could read about other women's experiences.

From these posts, I learned it was not uncommon for AI to take a very long time after the paperwork had been submitted. I also felt comfortable enough to PM some of the women here who wrote about their journey. They were extremely friendly and helpful... and got me in touch with people who could help.

Further, I now know of two women who had connections with their GLOs in college (one had received a bid but had to turn it down for financial reasons, the other had more vague ties). Both women learned through reading about experiences of people here, that it was a possible to reconnect with their GLO and become an initiated member.. although that possibility was remote. Both pursued it, and both are initiated members today.

If women ask naive questions on this forum.. so what? Let's try to help answer them... If they are going about it the wrong way.. what's so wrong with telling them that in a kind way? And.. if they think AI is easy, again.. what's wrong with helping them understand how difficult and rare it is? I make those comments with the caveat that we have no right to judge who is or is not "right" for AI.. it is up to the GLO's headquarters and the local alumnae group to decide.

One worry that was expressed is that the existence of this forum would "cheapen" AI by leading women to believe it's an easy process. I disagree! I think it's the opposite! I think that anyone reading this forum, and the many stories.. would see how difficult it is. There are also many PNAIs who posted their stories and were unsuccessful. And, of course. .there have been warnings by GC members to PNAIs telling them how rare it is.

And finally, I want to reiterate my point that this board is not encouraging swarms of PNAIs. In the grand scheme of things.. there have only been a handful or so in the last year!

Sure, it would be great if everyone interested in joining a sorority later in life had a crystal ball. But the fact is, they don't.

Blueangel what about that post was derailing that thread? I was just surprised that a sorority that has 4 or 5 collegiate chapters in a state where Greek Life isn't even a big deal wouldn't have a nearby alumnae chapter. But I can clearly see where that comes off as being a personal attack.

I'm quite disturbed that you are telling me that you think it's acceptable to imply someone doesn't have a life and to "get a hobby." BTW-- you know I DO have a hobby.. judo.. and several more.. but that aside.. I'd like to get back on topic and hear what you have to say about my previous post (which I reposted for KPrincess)

(edited for typo)

If both parties could let the dust settle, there haven't been any attacks.

ReachtheLimit: you're losing any credibility you had and fast. Heck, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt but I'm not so sure anymore. It's difficult to accurately judge a system that you're not a part of in any way, shape, or form. While sororities don't always mind assisting an AI in contacting an alumna chapter, it doesn't mean they wouldn't prefer never receiving that call. I do think that if HQs want things to change, their policies should reflect that, but neither you nor I know anything about those policies.

I still think that people should be able to post questions they may have, as many are, in fact, ignorant of AI, non-collegiate sororities, and other options they may have. NPC sororities just have all the name recognition. Let people learn if they ask questions (and only post answers if you want to). I understand wanting to remove the forum (and I suggest folding the posts into Greek Life), but I think that GC should not be held responsible to HQs and that questions should be allowed.

That post wasn't a personal attack.. the attack was suggesting I have no life and to get a hobby.

Now.. how about your thoughts on the AI Forum (back on topic) that I reposted to KPrincess?

I agree with posters who say that it should be run more like the D9 forums.

No there have been a whole lot more PNAI's advertising their stories in the last year or so though and many of them were very shady in the way they conducted their business.

NOt true, there are many ways to make friends with people in GLO's and Privately messaging members here could be an option BUT PMing 6 different people from 6 different GLO's is not the answer and PMing someone who lives in South Dakota when you live in TX is also not an option.

I'll look at the rest of your post later. Right now I have to go to my real life and go to my kids school.

I disagree only because AI isn't like D9 intake at all.

Fair enough. And why do you think that? What do you think of Drolefille's points?

I am not well-versed on D9 intake, especially when it comes to post-grads. Can a D-9er elucidate the process a little? Is it like AI in any way?

If you want to put me on ignore, that's fine.. but I can point out your posts if I want to. It's not against the TOS.

And, for the record, I happen to agree with your points here.
