A quick update on recruitment at WashU now that registration is REALLY closed and chapter have received PNM lists!
We broke 400 women signed up for the first time (? unconfirmed, but I doubt that this has ever happened before), which means that approximately half of the women in the freshman class are choosing to go through recruitment. The amount of upperclassmen choosing to go through recruitment has also doubled between last year and this year. With a grand total of 416 women going through recruitment, this would mean that, if no one drops out, new member classes would be 52, even with the addition of Kappa Delta after last formal recruitment (quota last year was 47). If the same amount of people withdraw in relation to previous years, new member classes will be approximately the same as last year or potentially one or two members smaller.
Greek life has grown tremendously at WashU, and we have had 3 new chapters colonize in the last 10 years as well as two chapters that have hit centennials (Pi Phi's Missouri Beta chapter a few years ago, and my Alpha Epsilon chapter of Delta Gamma this upcoming April). If numbers don't go down like they had hoped with Kappa Delta, I could reasonably see another chapter being added down the line in a few years (so far it's been about 5 years between chapters being added, with Chi Omega in 2003, Alpha Omicron Pi in 2008, and Kappa Delta in 2013).

The numbers at W&L seem a bit lower than in prior years.

Freshmen registration was down, but sophomore registrations were higher than in past years. Registration ended the first week of November, which is quite early.

^^^ Yes. My daughter thinks a lot of freshmen were scared off by the high release rate last year.

If a lot of girls were being released outright, RFM is probably not being instituted effectively. But my guess, again, is that most of these girls dropped out after round 1 didn't go perfectly. Remember, with RFM, quota is not a pre-set number, so more girls going through doesn't mean more girls get cut. If the rushees stick with the process, it will mean larger pledge classes for everyone. But they do have to be open to the less competitive chapters which WILL grow given a chance.
