Seriously. I can't stand when people who haven't been around the system or in it think that they know everything. Obviously she didn't get past one of the rounds last year for a reason. I'm sure she's probably already blacklisted at a few houses. Gotta love the IU system.

Apparently she is an IU PNM. She also deleted alot of her posts today for some reason and said she is not rushing anymore.

Hoosergirl89, I hope you heed the advice here and remain open-minded, as apparently IU can be a little unkind to girls who aren't.

How far did you get in recruitment last year?

Ok I put it in the right forum this time! Haha...

Formal recruitment at Indiana University is about to begin in about 3 weeks! I have been reading this forum and I thought I might as well share my story too!

The way recruitment works here is:
19 party- Oct. 27 and 28 (visit all 19 chapters)
12 party- January 4th
6 party- January 5th
Preference Round (3 houses)- January 6th
Bid Night (after the first day of classes )- January 7th

I'll go ahead and name the houses for you guys and then I guess I'll write back after 19 party!!!

I'll just use names of actresses for the houses because...there are 19 of them and this is the easiest.

1. Reese Witherspoon
2. Nicole Kidman
3. Sarah Jessica Parker
4. Renee Zelweger
5. Julia Roberts
6. Jennifer Aniston
7. Sandra Bullock
8. Cameron Diaz
9. Demi Moore
10. Drew Barrymore
11. Eva Longoria
12. Teri Hatcher
13. Cate Blanchett
14. Keira Knightley
15. Sienna Miller
16. Kate Bosworth
17. Scarlett Johansson
18. Jessica Alba
19. Kirsten Dunst

I have no idea why there is such a big gap between them...its going to be torture waiting that long though!

I think I know who is recolonizing...since there is only one house who used to be here and isn't anymore (their house is now the office of admissions...). Can you PM me who it is?

recruitment begins in less than 12 hours!!!!!

ill keep you guys updated!

Ok so I went to 10 of the houses today so here it goes:

1. Reese Witherspoon- First house of the day, so not sure what to really expect. Lots of energy and cute girls but one conversation was definetely forced. Would like to go back again though.

2. Kirsten Dunst- House has a reputation for being almost identical to Reese^ and I definetely saw that. Nice girls, once again would like to go back there.

3. Jennifer Aniston- Loved these girls, very genuine and had a lot to talk about, no awkward moments. Would definetely like to go back.

4. Drew Barymore- FAVORITE OF THE DAY!! Absolutely loved the girls who rushed me, can really see myself here.

5. Julia Roberts- Known as being the "best" house on campus, but I didn't really believe the hype...kind of strange moments and the girl I was double rushed with dominated the conversation. Would like to give it a second chance though, because the girls I know that are in it are great.

6. Sarah Jessica Parker- First girl was the most awkward conversation of the day, but the second and I had SO much in common. Beautiful house, but not sure if its me. Would probably go back, though.

7. Keira Knightley- My legacy house, so I was really excited to go here. Loved the girls I talked to, a definite favorite.

8. Eva Longoria- LOVED the Eva's. Really down to earth and had things to talk about other than hometown and major. Also a favorite.

9. Sandra Bullock- Had heard a lot of good things about this house, and now I see why. Loved their philanthropy and had good conversations. Another favorite.

10. Jessica Alba- This house is not for me. We were triple rushed by a girl who doesn't even go to IU and it was completely awkward.

It was a really long day but SO MUCH FUN. I can't wait to do it all again tomorrow! I'm having a hard time finding any negatives about the houses but at this point, Drew, Keira, Eva and Sandra are my favorites.

I'll update tomorrow!!

yeah they are definetely in the "rebuilding stage" from what i have gathered. most houses have anywhere from 100-120 girls live in, and this house only has maybe 50 at the most, so i think they need the extra girls for rush.

HoosierGirl89
10-28-2007, 08:59 PM

well...day two is done and i just met with my rho gamma to rank my choices.

1. Cate Blanchett- Girls were different from others that I had met at other chapter, and had pretty good conversations here. Like the house itself, would probably not be the best fit for me though.

2. Renee Zelweger- Pretty house, easy conversation but it was very polite conversation. It was just OK in my opinion.

3. Demi Moore- Has a pretty good reputation, but I did not have a good time here! The girl that rushed me didn't let me talk at all.

4. Sienna Miller- Loved these girls, had awesome, random conversations. Not exactly "top tier" but I really don't care about that, as long as I like the girls. Would love to go back here.

5. Teri Hatcher- Great house, lots of good conversation. Have family ties to this house, would love to go back.

6. Nicole Kidman- Had a really bad time here. I was double rushed and the girls didn't know how to keep a conversation going, it felt like an interview. Would not like to go back here.

7. Cameron Diaz- Loved this house! Had not heard much about it before but had actual conversations about more than just my basic info. Would like to go back.

8. Kate Bosworth- Had heard that this house was really bad at 19 party but I had decent conversations here. Definetely not my favorite, but not the worst house either.

9. Scarlett Johansson- Not for me, but had good conversations. It was the last party of the day so we were all really, really tired. Their rush seemed kind of unorganized, too. Would not like to go back here.

We have to pick our top 12, but we don't have to rank them. We have to rank our 13-19, though, in case we are not invited back by one or more of the top 12. It was hard to narrow it down..but I think I managed.

I'll come back with an update in January!

HoosierGirl89
10-28-2007, 10:21 PM

My top twelve (in no order..its too hard) are:

1. Reese Witherspoon
2. Sarah Jessica Parker
3. Julia Roberts
4. Jennifer Aniston
5. Sandra Bullock
6. Cameron Diaz
7. Drew Barrymore
8. Eva Longoria
9. Teri Hatcher
10. Keira Knightley
11. Sienna Miller
12. Kirsten Dunst

13-19 (in order) are:

13. Cate Blanchett
14. Demi Moore
15. Renee Zelwegger
16. Kate Bosworth
17. Scarlett Johansson
18. Nicole Kidman
19. Jessica Alba

And yes to the question above, we do come back early from break on January 4th....ITS GOING TO BE TORTURE UNTIL THEN!!

HoosierGirl89

yes, i still around i have just been lurking on and off. i did not get any houses back for preference round so thats pretty much it for me. its very competitive.

HoosierGirl89
03-14-2008, 08:04 PM

yes, and no. long wait i know, forgot about this thing for a while! theta, alpha xi and kd too a few girls during bid week but you had to know someone there to be invited so yeah. im pretty jaded on greek life now though after all of this especially since i wanted to be in sorority more than anything (still do) and girls who didn't even care got their top choice. iu's recruitment is intense and competitive and a lot of times if you don't know a ton of people from your high school or have some other connections its pretty hard. also, each house can take however many they want over quota, so for example one "elite" chapter took around 40 while a more middle of the road, but good house took almost 70. and out of all of the pledge classes sophomore total was anywhere from 1-10, so its looking pretty grim for next year :/

Hi GCers...I have been lurking around these stories all summer and I believe what I am about to say is a GC first.

As you might know from reading my story, I rushed last year as a freshmen and unfortunately did not get a bid. However, I am excited to say that I am going through again!

Our first two rounds are not until December (I know, forever away basically) but I will keep you guys updated!!

HoosierGirl89

Oh, you have NO idea how much I have learned (especially since I tend to overanalyze EVERYTHING). I really think things are going to be better this time.

A lot of the chapters I wrote as loving last year I now know I would never fit in. Should be interesting, eh?

I plan to use the same code names for the same houses this time around. I can't wait! Cross your fingers for me!

But most telling, she edited this post today and replaced it with this:

Not rushing again...dunzo.

Perhaps our IU recruitment expert is a little nervous now about how the rest of her recruitment will go in January thanks to her comments here. I mean there can’t be that many re-rushing sophomores, can there?

I knew it was only a matter of time before that happened. I'd like to say that there aren't too many re-rushing sophomores at IU, but I never went to IU and have never participated in rush there, so someone who actually went there would know for sure. (See, hoosiergirl89 -- that's how you SHOULD have handled things.)

I've seen threads where PNMs are found out by actives and they didn't even post that much. I wouldn't be surprised if actives at IU already figured out who this chick was before she played rush expert.

ETA: Oh, and hoosiergirl89? Your posting of a Rush: Part Deux thread is NOT a GC First. You are NOT the first GCer to post two rush threads in consecutive years.

I think it's a little interesting that she would be posting advice on formal recruitment when she didn't make it all the way through.

I suppose the intarwebs are full of "experts."

Hmm...come to think of it, I think she was rushing right around the time you were still posting. I think you weren't around when she starting dishing rush advice to PNMs -- despite not successfully receiving a bid herself.

She was THE WORST. I actually got fed up and called her out at one point via PM (which I think caused her to declare that she was leaving).

I like how she tried to tell me which houses I had on my list. Um..I think I would know that better than anyone.

And especially being a sophomore..ha...she'll automatically be cut by certain houses. A person rushing the second time around?? HUGE RED FLAG.

I'm also pretty sure that the only houses on campus that might even come CLOSE to having 15 legacies in a house are SDT and AEPhi.

I am wondering if this is the girl who went through last year and didn't get houses back, went through open and got a bid, declined, and tried to start her own sorority..only to be on the list to rush again this year. I wouldn't be surprised if its her. It sounds like she can't handle rejection at all...or has a huge lying problem and can't stand to be called out on things.

I find it ironic that she put so much stress on being a legacy in her authoritative advice posts, but admits she is a legacy in her edited posts. But heck, VAgirl, you were only in a house at IU and she was a mighty PNM legacy who failed to even get a single invite to pref parties. What could you possibly know?

I trust that both my own sisters and my Panhellenic sisters will do the right thing during this recruitment as well.

I do have a quick question about your recruitment. Do the PNMs know which houses they are invited back to for the next round before they come back early from break?

While I was at IU, no. I'm pretty sure the policy remains the same, but I have heard of a few people having their rho gammas call them prior to the start of parties to let them know that they haven't received any houses back. You obviously know not to come back if your GPA isn't high enough or if you don't want to continue.

The lists are NOT released prior to break and most of the time people get at least two or three houses back. You don't know which houses til the night prior or morning of...not sure as to how they do that now. It sucks that people have to come back from break early only to potentially not have any houses and spend a few days alone before classes start, but its part of the process.

Recruitment rules have become SEVERELY relaxed since I was there, but I'm pretty sure that the methods for letting women know is still the same.

This thread was bugging me for some reason. So last night I was at a cookie exchange and the daughter of a friend was there. The daughter goes to IU and is in a sorority. So I asked her about the live-out question. In her words "that is the most irritating question" asked during recruitment. She said that if a PNM wants that info, they should find it out outside of recruitment. In HER opinion, someone that asks that doesn't sound like they are really serious about the house. IF they really loved the house, they wouldn't care about the live-out policy.

So VAgirl18, it sounds to me like you gave some spot-on advice!
