Nope.

I did the community college thing so of course sororities weren't even on my radar. I transferred to UF, and then to FSU. I was bored one day decided to check greek life out. I COB'd on a whim and here i am!

Nope. I knew absolutely nothing about it. I only knew vaguely that they existed. And that apparently their main purpose was to "throw parties".

yes

I could have attended Notre Dame University, for half the price, but there were no Greek organizations there so I chose an all black college.

I knew nothing about Greek Life and didn't care at all...in fact, if asked at the time I would have said Greek Life was stupid and for preps/sluts who liked to get drunk all the time and pay for their friends...

Obviously I've changed my mind, haha.

Wholeheartedly agree with GEN Alum. Why would anyone want to attend the Colorado Reform School for Alternatives to Military Service. THE Academy or the Naval Academy would be great choices. But the Air Farce? Carnegie Mellon is a damned fine school and would be an excellent choice both academically and for Greek considerations. Please convince Alum Junior that if he wants a military education the Army mule and the Navy Goat beat hell out of the Air Farce's carrion buzzard.

I had no clue about greek life. I decided to rush the week before school started freshman year because a girl from my high school convinced me to. haha
So, when deciding on colleges Greek life wasn't a deciding factor. But all the schools I applied to have huge Greek Communities, so either way I probably would have ended up greek.

Nope.

I am the first Greek in my family, so Greek life wasn't on my radar. All the schools I applied to had Greek life but they were all smaller systems. I sort of ended up in Greek life by accident!

Greek Life was sort of a deciding factor for me, but not really. All but one of the schools I applied to had greek life (St Marys College of Southern MD). The school I originally REALLY wanted had a very small greek system......heck the school only had 1500 students (Albright College) but I ended up at Maryland because my dad was "underwhelmed" with Albright, plus Maryland was cheaper and better academics wise. I can remember though looking at my parents college yearbooks (they both went to MD) and looking wistfully at the sorority pictures thinking it would be really fun. Maryland was HUGE and I was a commuter the first year and having a terrible time meeting people and I was miserable. It was actually my dad who suggested that I rush to make friends, even though neither of my parents were greek. My dad did get a bid at a fraternity at MD (wont say which) but turned it down because he didnt want to deal with the hazing LOL. I think in the early 70's the fraternity hazing at Maryland was pretty bad.

Not at all. I had only two real choices, one had a strong system and the other didn't. I ended up going to the one with a weak system as it was easier for me to commute. I didn't even go greek until my junior year. However I did rush my sophmore year and was being rushed for a year and a half for a different fraternity. I was too slow to realize until after I was a brother at Psi U that my friend wanted me as a brother. Honestly I would be happy either place but I'm glad I'm where I ended up.

yes! :)

I knew I wanted to stay in state (Arizona) for college. My choices were ASU, NAU, or U of A! I chose U of A because ASU doesn't have sorority houses and U of A has great greek life

Yes.
I didn't have any family members who were greek, but I always knew it was something I wanted to learn more about, and might be interested in during college. The 3 schools I looked seriously at all had greek orgs, but I remember being disappointed that Washington University [in St Louis] didn't have traditional sorority houses.

i have always wanted to attend LSU, my dad is an alumnus but was not Greek. Either way i would be at LSU, but the presence of a pretty strong greek system is definitely a plus

I wanted to be in a sorority, but didn't know if I would actually rush. I applied to all state schools and made my decision based mostly on location (warm weather) and on reputation of my major program. It didn't really occur to me that some schools didn't have greek life.

I knew a number of men and women who went out of their way to select colleges and universities that didn't have a Greek system. (Note to 33Girl, a couple of friends chose Juniata because the college lacked fraternities and sororities).

A lot of my friends chose religiously-affiliated institutions had never had or had eliminated GLOs.
