OH--and there's NOTHING like the feeling when you ask for an autograph!!

It was July 22,1999--me and my friend had gotten seats 6 ROWS BEHIND THE DUGOUT!! (Courtesy of my mom's connections.) WELL, before the game, I was so excited--saw some of my fave players. Well, some just waved to me and acknowledged me. Some came over and shook hands with me, saying they were glad i was a fan, and that they need more kids to be as excited as I was....LOLOLOL!!

Anyway, finally I had the nerve to ask Wilson Delgado (a rookie then) of the Giants (well, he's since been traded) for an autograph. I rolled over my ticket by way of a pen (I attached the pen to the ticket, so it could be rolled over to him, since the top of the dugout is separating us). WELL, wouldn't you know it! The ticket was stuck--in the middle of the top of the dugout! So here I was, unable to reach it, unless I were to jump off and get it--which would be stupid, b/c then I would be ejected from the park. Or, Delgado could reach over and try to get it.

So he tries to reach it--and fails. Well, here I am, getting all sad, b/c my ticket is gone, and my autograph hopes are kinda gone too. Delgado disappears momentarily, I'm shocked. I say to my friend, "Hey! Where is he going????!!!" Then Delgado reappears, smiling. He says to me, "Don't worry!" (in his accent hehe.) He uses a bat that he got out to roll the ticket towards him. He signs the ticket and rolls it back to me. THEN, you will not believe this! He gives me his bat!!!!! Yep, I'm a Wilson Delgado fan for life now! You don't know how much it meant to me--especially since I was so excited--first time sitting so close to the players! I LOVE BASEBALL!!

Good points. I used to live in Chicago, and I went to Wrigley many times. Now I live in St. Louis (the best baseball town in America) but I still give props to Wrigley. I was never really a Cubs fan, but you can't beat the atmosphere there.

Yeah, I know I go to school in Boston, but I'm a Yanks fan through and through...and no, I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon, I've been a fan since they were having losing records every year in the late eighties and early nineties and they had guys like Andy Hawkins, Rafael Santana, and Joel Skinner. I'm saying that they do it again this year, and win yet another World Series.

Yeah, I knew Chipper when he played for the Macon Braves, back before he married his first wife. As a matter of fact, I've got his baseball card from that year, that he signed for me one night. It's worth a few hundred right now, but I'm not selling!

Cool story: one of my DZ sisters is married to a guy who Chipper has his autograph contract with. (He can only sign this guy's merchandise, other than for a few exceptions like charity events and after-game autographs - things like that.) Anyway, he and his family have dinner with my sister quite often.

Just thought I'd drop in here the fact that the sox took 3 of 4 from the yankees this week, beating pettitte, mussina, and el duque . . . great series though, all were really good games; wish we'd gone to some

I'm sure that Newbie and other baseball fans saw Barry Bonds' 500th HOMER the other day! What a wonderful sight, what a wonderful feat--that man is amazing. Totally on fire...hit his 501st yesterday--on a tear! Baseball is simply the world's greatest sport . Nothing like the magic of 500 HRs, no-hitters, perfect games, etc.!

SO...how are all your teams doing now??????

My Giants, sadly , are not doing that well on this current road trip...lost a LOT of heartbreakers...

HOWEVER, we are only 1/2 game outta 1st place! The NL West is the best division in all of baseball (most competitive, every team in the NL WEst is above .500), but of course, we don't have any real stand-out, awesome teams in the NL West though.

Right now--the only bright spot for the struggling Giants is, who else, but BARRY BONDS...wow, that man is just AWESOME. I cannot believe that I am so lucky as to watch him play. I am sooo happy that I am fortunate enough to be a Giants fan...to watch Bonds hit HR after HR, field wonderfully, steal bases, etc. etc. He seems un-human almost!!!!!!!

He's hit 7 HRs in the last 6 games!!!! They were all bombs, too! Superman or what, huh?!!

Now my Giants better start playing better!! Our pitching has not been good, and our defense could get better. thankfully we are only 1/2 game outta first.

Next up...Arizona. Yuck. We're gonna be facing some TOUGH pitching (Schilling, Randy Johnson, etc.)

OH yeah, are any of you as surprised as I am, how there is a shifting of power???

NY mets and the Braves are doing horrible...though the Braves are doing better. Philadelphia Phillies are first place in the NL East. Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, and Seattle Mariners are doing great, first place in their divisions! Is that surprising to any of you??!! It's downright scary to me. Seattle seems almost un-human, too. They have only like 8 losses???!!

And the A's (who were supposed to be good), are last place, 11 games out of first in the AL West.

And the SD Padres, who were supposed to be pretty bad, are above .500 and are on a roll these days, it seems.

OH, and the annoying Dodgers are in 1st place, I hate to admit it. I'm pretty surprised...but I don't think it'll last..they've had just too many changes w/their players, managers, coaches, etc. Oh well, the Giants will kick their butts (and all the rest of the NL teams! haha!) soon, we'll be in 1st the rest of the way!!!!

Very surprising '01 MLB Season so far, though!!

newbie -

yeah, the giants are eating it right now - they're only averaging more than an error a game though, so that's not too bad . . . ; ) they'll do better though, but how much do they miss ellis burks and bill mueller?

Anyway - Red Sox nation is happy - we're still rollin along. Manny is on pace to break the all-time RBI record, Veritek hit 3 jacks today, Pedro's pure insanity - all this w/out Nomar too. it's awesome - enough bragging about the sox though

The 'shifting balance of power' thing is definitely a little wack, no one predicted that - although the cubs are in 3rd now, after losing 7 in a row, and the cards are back on top so that's more 'normal'. The NL East just sucks - the Phillies' record isn't that good, but since you play more w/in your division this year they get to beat up on the mets and marlins, and even the braves until recently. The Twins just have amazing pitching, and Seattle's just been on a roll for like 40 games. Oakland will rebound though - they've been playing well lately, and their pitchers are unreal (like the Twins). Anyway - golf and baseball are the summer for me, so any time you wanna run baseball smack i'm up for it, peace'
