Yes, yes, YES. (Scary Angela Lansbury - watch this movie and Murder She Wrote will never be the same to you) Steve Dunleavy wrote a book in the mid-70s called The Very First Lady - it was complete pulp trash, but HO LEE COW did it remind me of Hilary. I'm not rock ribbed Republican by any means, but I'll vote for the dead rotting corpse of Warren G Harding before I'll vote for her.
At any rate - come on you people!! Vote for Fred Dalton Thompson!! If he wins all his old Law & Order castmates will show up at the inaugural gala in tuxes and JESSE L MARTIN MIGHT SING!!! If that isn't reason enough to vote for someone, I don't know what is.

Are you sure the world won't collapse on itself if you vote Republican?

Well, that's 0-2 for me, because I was sure that MC would be a registered Republican.

If (and I mean if, since I do not know if this is true) Capt. Dennis Keast (USAF, retired) really did publicly say all these things about former Presidents- then what a disgraceful betrayal of trust to his employers after years of having the privilege of such an amazing career.
If the American people cared about the private lives of their Presidents- it would show up on election day. And if the American people ever became overly obsessed with judging Presidential Candidates on a random set of arbitrary moral criteria at the expense of examining their qualifications and willingness to work- we will start to resemble every other disastrous tyrannical regime in human history where "morality" was the basis for government (and God help you if you did not have the same "morality" as the man in charge.)
As for Hillary, since leaving college I have met and worked with many female executives who were rewarded with the nickname "bitch" just because they were able to be as bold and aggressive as is required for men who rise to the top of their fields/organizations.
George Bush I is an exceptionally aloof individual. Granted he is polite, but he is every bit as "cold" as Hillary- and can be as snobby as anyone you have ever met. There is more old money Maine in him than Texan.
So how come he gets to be a nice guy and Hillary gets to be a bitch? I am not saying we should say Bush I is a jerk- he is not. But why does Hillary get blasted just because she is not some warm and gooey personality?
And as I said above- same happens in business. Martha Stewart is the ultimate bitch to gossipers, but there have been some downright evil CEOs in recent history who are male and who have never been portrayed as such. If a man brings in the money, he is good no matter what. But if a woman delivers results, she is still just a bitch in some minds.
But back to the diversion, who actually casts a vote based on whether somebody is mean or not? This kind of stuff makes a good media story, but anyone who is casting a serious vote cannot possibly take these things into account.

I don't know what a SHIM is, but it sounds interesting!
Drolefille, I agree, I very much enjoyed your post. My favorites were Hunter - Gatherer? and Biden - your time?
EE-BO, I always enjoy your posts as well, although I can't join you in your fondness for Giuliani, I applaud your extremely reasoned and well-presented expose on the hypocrisy that often comes out of the right-wing platform (and I was raised nestled deep in that wing, Mom used to tape Limbaugh's show, the whole 9 -- got too dark for me under all those prickly feathers!).
I wish Bill Richardson were a more serious contender for the Democratic nomination. I think John Edwards is a fine fellow and all, but I believe his one and only shot at the Executive Branch came and went in 2004. I would much rather Richardson be the other member of the triad that gets the most coverage, I think he would provide a much better comparison/contrast with the other two front runners. He is the only one with (elected) executive branch experience and front-line foreign policy experience. And he too would be a first, he is Mexican and Catholic (and greek! he was president of Delta Tau Delta at Tufts -- his bio says he was almost impeached in the early 60s when he cracked down on pot usage in the house, lol).
My father is convinced he'll be Hillary's VP candidate. If that's true, then I will be able to throw my full support behind that ticket. (Dad, btw, is a Huckabee or Romney guy -- it's really amazing I ever have any civil conversations with my family...)

Drolefille, that's an interesting synopsis - at least as intelligent of some of the talking heads I've heard recently. That still doesn't leave a strong winner in the bunch, or a candidate who can mend the blue/red divide in this country. As if that's possible, I suppose.

I have my heart set on Obama, so what can I say. I think he's shown a good ability to work with people from all political PoVs. But I'll see what happens in the general election.

Well, when I have to look your name up on Wiki to know if you're a candidate, it's not going well for you

I'll be voting for Paul in the primary, but only because I know he'll lose.
Yes, some of his policies do scare the bejeezus out of me.
On the other hand, I like his core principles: Being a strict constructionist in terms of construing governmental powers granted by the Constitution, state powers (I want the states to be stronger), libertarianism in general, etc. I figure the larger the minority is which votes for Paul, the more attention those sorts of ideas will be given in the general election.
