Someone has been reading wiki. But LG, Yes it is true. As initiated members are not allowed to join other Greek Letter orgs (unless professional in nature) neither are the Honorary members.

yeah I was being sarcastic. I found it interesting that a newbie who has not identified themselves as a NPHC member would post with such authority.

I as a kappaman am proud of the fact that we don't have honoraries, but i am also disappointed in some of the young brothers and sisters who are becoming involved in bglo,s today. I have talked to a few and they seem to have no sense of the history of their org. when you have to tell a young man that he can look at the names of famous civil rights activist and that they wer all influenced by their particular bglo, and he looks as if you are speaking in a foreign tongue it makes you wonder if it is time to re-educate them. honorary or not

I do have a question. Is it that you just do not call them honoraries, but still may have a special initiation via an alumni chapter for someone of national distinction?

The reason I asked is that our honoraries tend to be women who were interested in Delta for many years, but for whatever reason could not pledge when they were younger. And then their distinguished careers kept from from being able to later. I have shed quite a few tears upon hearing an new honorary initiate speak with passion about how they always wanted a chance to be a member and never thought they would ever get it.

Thus I am proud of the fact that we have a honorary member category.

Yes, you do need people who is going to be resourceful financially. Most people after they graduate and especially the ones who so called "pledged" do not participate financially after they graduate. There are some that continue to pay dues to nationals or enter into a graduate chapter, but majority just walk around with a license plate or a t-shirt of their org and haven't given any money for years. So who do you think keep these orgs running? People who are wealthy and donate a lot of money yearly. Such as the "honorary" people, who put their money where their mouth is. So don't get all big headed and think you don't need those types of people, because those who might have pledged years ago undergrad are not doing a thang (yes, not a thang) for their org but sit around with a t-shirt on.
