Oh, wow. In that case that must just be an Arkansas thing.

The only people I knew who got married the summer after HS graduation were girls who were pregnant, or their boyfriends were being deployed or something and they wanted to be able to live on the military base and have their health benefits.

Those were the only 2 circumstances I could think of for girls in my area, nobody here (northeastern Ohio) gets married that young without some sort of "extenuating circumstance."

There are a lot of kids in my area who get married right out of high school, and for some dumb ass reason, their parents encourage it. I had a friend at a different high school who knew of a 17 year-old divorcee. That's just insane.

I think the rush to get married just after graduating from college is definitely a Southern/Midwestern thing.

Of the college folks, only now are my friends starting to get married, and I've been out of college for 5 years. Granted, I did know a few people who got married just after graduation, but for the most part, they were either religious or had been together even before college. Even among those 2-3 couples who did get married right out of college, none of them have had kids yet!

Meanwhile, my HS classmates from the South are, for the vast majority of them, married with kids; some of them are even divorced! I can't imagine.

My HS graduating class of 2003 had 650 people in it, I'd say about 100 are married right now. Probably a third of them have at least one child. I've noticed most recently, a year after graduating college, a lot of the "high school sweethearts" are tying the knot.

My roommate is from southern WV and she graduated HS in 2004. She frequently makes comments about being the only one of her friends who isn't married or divorced. Several of her friends are on their second marriage. I'm sorry, but your second marriage at 21 just sounds trashy to me.

MTV is running a mini-marathon on the show right now (with couples commentary added in), since the Live Special airs at 5pm.

I checked out MTV's Engaged & Underaged blogs and I found out that Ashley & Byron have a baby girl now.

I've met a lot of incoming students this summer due to alumni outreach and so many of them were telling me about their classmates getting engaged instead of going to college. These kids aren't getting married because they are having kids either. More than one told me there were proposals at PROM.

I am still amazed at the amount of students 18-22 who are married in college. A lot of them are super conservative and religious (read: Mormons) but it still blows my mind because most of my high school friends aren't married or parents yet.

For those that aren't watching the special, the bride is 18 and the groom is 19. The groom is also deploying to Afghanistan shortly after the wedding. They are also a couple who has decided to wait until they were married to have sex.

Yeah, senior year of high school.

Most of my (girl)friends are feeling the pinch to get married this year, my senior year of college. They're gettin a bit worried cuz most of their friends are married or in the process...or have a baby.

Oh well...

Double post, but gotta love the girl who INSISTS (to the point of argument) on still living with mom and dad (not with hubby) after marriage. She says, "she'll be able to concentrate on school better if she lives at home." Um, what?!

OMG! My husband's best friend has been going through that with his wife for the past 3 1/2 years! For the first 2 years they lived with her parents with their 2 kids. Then, when his job transferred him closer to us, she refused to move away from her parents. Finally, she moved in just this past summer with her husband, but went BACK home after an argument. Now he is in the military and she is giving it another shot and moved last weekend. We'll see how long it lasts.

the mixed couple tripped me out. her red dress was, well, interesting. but not as much as her groom's sleeveless red pin-striped tux his parents did not look happy at the wedding at all. i'm not sure if ut;s b/c they felt the two were too young or that he looked like an idiot on international TV

These people are just stupid and don't even fully understand marriage. I understand that you've been dating a long time, you want to get married, but I think marriage should be a happy occassion. I don't want to get married while my parents are devastated by my choice!
