From a historical standpoint, it's easy to be sensitive about FAMU. I'll just take one example, the law school. When it was closed down in the late sixties, the explanation given was that there wasn't enough demand for a state law school in the panhandle. Alas, two years later there is an overwhelming demand in the panhandle so instead of re-opening FAMU's law school, it's opened at the white school, FSU, two years later. (PC folks, please don't flame me about calling the FSU the white school, in the sixties IT WAS the white school in Tallahassee)

That was only about 40 years ago, so those folks who participated in this treachery are still around Tallahassee. So if one has lived there, we know those SOB's say whatever they want to say so get the desired results. KMPG routinely sends the most unqualified individuals to work on projects that are primarily represented at FAMU. And if the rocket scientests at KMPG did an audit when the IP arrived and now two years later the problem is worse, WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT THERE ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE ISSUES AT FAMU? Trust they did not have any Rattlers working on the either audit.

And as one of the previous posters alluded, when Humphries was running stuff, the BOR didn't say squat to that man cuz he would beat them down. He must have been blackmailing (or should I say whitemailing) them cuz they was scared of that brother!!!

Jody, a reason why no Rattlers were on the audit team could be because KPMG considers it a conflict of interest. Even though I think the risk is small for impropriety, it's probably standard procedure.

When your allegiance prevents you from hearing or reading criticisms (that aren't even about your school), there's an issue.

My "sucky HBCU" comment to you was just teasing because you couldn't let go of whatever point you thought you were making. There are sucky HBCUs but I don't know enough about FAMU or its reputation to call it one.

Moreover, your comments regarding Alumni no contributing to the school - are you an Alum? How do you know WHAT alum contribute, if you are not one. I know many alum who contribute finanically and with their time to our illustrious school. I hold the legislature and the state government partially responsible for the situation FAMU is in . . . .they didn't do checks and balances while Hump was there because the BOard of Regents was too afraid of Hump to question anything he did . .THAT IS A PROBLEM . . .your responsibility as a member of the BOR (now defunct) is to CHECK ALL state funded schools . . not just sit idly by and let one do what the hell they want to do . . that is crazy . . . I am not taking all of the blame away from A&M, but there is a legislature and a BOR in place for a reason, and they failed to do their jobs . . .they saw something was fishy 10 years ago and chose to turn a blind eye until AFTER Hump left . . . and now ppl want a problem that took 10 years to make to be fixed overnight . . .it doesn't work that way (and don't get it twisted - there are majority schools that face similar problems all the time . . it just seems to generate more media attention when it is an HBCU).

Pres. Bryant has done a good job with cleaning house . . . she has eliminated the bad apples and is trying to find out where the leaks are . . but it takes time . . and I think people who make irresponsible comments such as yours, NUPE, do more to exacerbate the situation than anything else. As I said, Florida A&M has graduated some of the best and the brightest business people, engineers, pharmacists, teachers, lawyers, doctors, etc. etc. in this country - you don't randomly close a school that has that reputation . . . .this too shall pass . . .God is with us always . . EVEN in the midst of these storms we are seeing.

(sorry for any sps - he got me HOT speaking blasphemy about my school . . I do NOT Play about FAMU!!! )

My boyfriend of seven years is an alumnus of FAMU (1999-2002), received three degrees from there. He's a proud Rattler and very close to one of his advisers but I know he had quite a few complaints himself about the system-like the time he broke his leg and they wouldn't let him have a handicapped pass for his car so he had to hop about those crazy hills with crutches. Or the time they 'lost' 500 dollars he had paid for a class and they wouldn't let him attend it anymore. He never did get the money back.

Not to end this post negatively, I will post a few positive things about FAMU-the SBI program, the pharmacy program, and the fact that a lot of my friends from high school attend it.

Ok, sorry it took me so long to get back. I was in an accident...long story.

Judging by what I have read thus far in an attempt to catch up, not one iota of substantiative proof has been given for statements made against HBCU's. No point in debating that further.

I'm wondering what will happen to FAMU as a result of this most recent incident. I'm sure it will still be one of the shining beacons of light within our HBCU family, however a bruise like this, a black eye from the hazing incident, and a sore throat from the Famuan staff walking out can leave a school a bit weary.

Any update on the situation?
