Seriously, just stop. I'm sorry that sororities don't have the scandal you are looking for. I had a wonderful experience in my sorority, have nothing to complain about, and think greek life is wonderful. And I didn't have to show my boobs or get my fat circled.

Sorority Life was filmed years ago, and the so called "literary work" (most of us call it fiction) was written years ago also. Why are you just now catching on?

And again, if you want commentary, DO A SEARCH

GC veterans, I'd like to take a stab at this if you don't mind...

Well, at least you've admitted you're somewhat bitter, so that's a good first step.

that article I posted is from the reporters personal experience, which is factual.
Since when is personal experience, which is often clouded by personal judgments, factual?

Their are hundreds just like it on the internet.
I'm starting to doubt that you're even in college. THEIR refers to ownership; you're looking for the word, THERE.

all I want is just a confession that these things take place.
Why? Are you a priest? Even if there were something to confess, why should anyone confess anything to you?

Seriously, you're in the wrong place for this. Please go home. Or better yet, like Dani suggested, to class; you could stand to learn a few things.

At least faternties will admit that they behave like this, all I want is just a confession that these things take place. Its not that big of a deal, considering we are all young anyway, because it is no secret to what goes on.
Since I'm super-bored at work, I'll bite.

What kinds of things did you witness?
I really hadn’t expected to find the level of "Animal House" campiness that I did in some groups. They had a tradition called boob ranking where pledges had just a lim ited amount of time to strip off their shirt and bras to examine each other topless so that by the time the clock was up, they were basically lined up in order of chest size in order of the sisters to inspect. Some sorori ties hold what they call “naked parties,” during which after a few drinks sisters and pledges strip off their clothes and basically run around the house naked, some of them hooking up with each other before they let the boys in.
Did she actually witness this, or is she using an expanded definition of witness (as in, she witnessed a girl saying to another girl, "I heard....?" If she did witness it, did she participate?

Isn’t there a constant emphasis on boys?
From the mixers to the formals to the homecomings to fraternity parties—there’s frequently a race to get dates from a limited pool of acceptable fraternity guys. And white sororities are so centered on relationships with their ceremonies and rituals and songs to celebrate specific relationship mile stones. By comparison, in at least one white sorority, the award for getting the highest GPA was a bag of potato chips. And you have to wonder what’s the point of a girls-only organization if it revolves around men.
Actually, since Ms. Robbins didn't experience any ceremonies or rituals, I'm interested to know what evidence she has that proves that ceremonies and rituals "celebrate specific relationship milestones." And, what evidence does she cite to support her theory, other than mixers and formals and fraternity parties (you know, non-Greek girls go to fraternity parties and frequently have mixers with their clubs or residence hall groups).

I think sororities have the poten tial to be so much more than they are, but the national offices are so concerned with things like money and image that they’ve lost touch with the girls as individuals.
And she knows this how? How much time has she spent volunteering on a national level for her sorority?

How prevalent are eating disorders?
I had heard urban legends about plumbers having to come clean out the pipes ever month or so in sororities because they get clogged with vomit. A lot of girls told me that was true. Eating disorders are so popular that some houses have puking contests after dinner. At State U., every sin gle one of the 18 sororities had eating-disor der problems.
Unless Ms. Robbins actually witnessed that with her own eyes, it's still urban legend. I spent four years in my sorority believing that we were not allowed to have sorority houses because of the "brothel law." It's just further evidence of how urban legends are passed on.

I would be comfortable saying it’s com mon. They call them class files or scholar ship files—they like to hold up scholarship as a pinnacle, you know, of their achieve ment but a lot of that is sometimes based on these notes and former tests and papers that they have in a file cabinet in a room in the house.
And using notes to help learn material is bad why?

Its not that big of a deal, don't get too mad. However, personal experience is factual when the person dresses up like a sorority girl and interacts with them on a day to day basis. And, logically, why would she care to lie about any of this and write a book on it. Also, why would a television show depict exactly the kind of behavior I am implying goes on? You can deny the book, but not even satan himself can deny something we all watched on T.V. The women even siad she would not her own daughter joining one. I admit to be in need of some more schooling, but for gods sake why can't a girl just state something that she knows is true in her heart. This stuff goes on in fraternities (might need spell check), and people don't seem have to have a problem admiting to what goes on. Eveyone knows it. Lastly why would 26 sororities block out media, after the airing of the show. That is something to hide. Anyway, I now relize admitting to facts that half of the nation saw on t.v. is beyond my espectation

That's the bad thing about joining a coed GLO...we couldn't do boob ranking, because not everyone could participate. And making out with each other just wouldn't be that scandalous.

Brianna is going to sit back with some popcorn, a Snickers bar and a Dr. Pepper and enjoy the show.

Anyone want some popcorn? I'll share!

Seriously, this is the best entertainment I've had all day (especially since I'm sitting at work doing Parent-Teacher conferences). This is frickin' hysterical.

This guy is just creepy. I get the feeling that he gets off on these sorority urban legends, which don't hold any more water than do those about say, Pop Rocks + Coke = exploding stomach. You've got to be severely delusional to take these things that you "hear" as fact.

And honestly, the experience that those girls had on Sorority Life or in Pledged is NOTHING like my own personal experience, and I'm sure that most of the women on here would say the same thing.
