Ok, I don't give a shit about arguing semantics, or listening to statistics.....
All I know is if someone that I love were murdered, and they knew who did it, I would want them put to death. I would watch.
Hate me all you want, call me barbaric if you want....

FREE TOOKIE!!!! oh wait the motherf*ckers already dead.shit. All that Tookie did was kill 4 people for a combined total of $220 cash. And there were all of those attacks on prison gaurds and inmates back in the 80's. I'm glad some people(gov.) can see past his crocidile tears and give him the fate he deserves.

Also, the goal of the penal system is rehabilitation. The death penalty was originally intended for those that could not be rehabilitated. Now, unfortunately it is all about vengence. [/B]

If this is the case, I don't know why the heck they dont just execute child molesters and rapists b/c the rate of recidivism is SO high, and it seems like we're letting them out all the time and they keep on doing the same things.............

Your question intrigues me. Every study that I've ever read says that child molesters cannot be rehabilitated (there was one "iffy" one about rapists). Frankly, I'd rather see a dead child molester than having the victim turn into the predator etc etc. It sounds so cold blooded - but what could be more cold blooded than destroying the psyche of a child?

Because, at least in the case of pedophiles, they themselves were usually abused as a child, and have suffered severe psychological damage because of it. They can only be attracted to a child because of the "innocence." They cannot be put to death in this case, because the requisites are not met: sane and competent.

If this is the case (not sane, nor competent) why are we putting them in Gen Pop and not into a mental institution? Seems to me they were deemed sane and competent enough to stand trial and be sentenced as such.
/*end hijack

I'd rather see a child molester given the death penalty any day of the week rather than run the risk of him/her getting out and harming another child. Same goes for rapists. I know that a lot of folks disagree with me, but I honestly think the only problem with the death penalty in this country is that it's not used often enough.

That sounds kind of funny with your "temperance" signature right underneath it.

Yeah, you're right. I guess at first glance it does seem a little odd... but from the online Merriam-Webster dictionary, temperance is defined as:
1 : moderation in action, thought, or feeling : RESTRAINT
2 a : habitual moderation in the indulgence of the appetites or passions b : moderation in or abstinence from the use of intoxicating drink
My comments in the previous post were actually moderate when compared to how I really feel about how violent criminals such as murderers, child molesters, and rapists should be punished. I really did show restraint by not saying more.

I used to write part-time for a children's show, and somehow, I got all the "stranger danger" stuff. It got to the point that I had so much hate for the scum who would harm a child that I finally started really praying about how much hate I had in my heart. Then, I realized that, no matter what our penal system could do to these miserable freaks, what they face in the afterlife will be a million times worse.
Actually, it's the ONLY way I can handle it!

You're absolutely right, honeychile. There's a special place reserved for those "people."
