GA residents are being asked to stay home as well.
There's still gas at the stations around my house in Cobb County although it's now up to $3.19 a gallon.

The gas across my house is still $2.89 and they still have gas! Its the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Paces Mill.

Tuesday morning, I filled up knowing that prices were gonna jump. I got gas at $2.59/gallon then. 24 hours later, the same gas station was at $2.89/gallon. This morning, $3.09. I have a 25-mile-each-way commute. Do you think I am at all happy about this? At least it's a little cheaper where I live than where I work. In Rockville, MD it was at $3.29 this morning. All you people who are still under $3... you're lucky.
To make matters worse, one of my coworkers has a friend whose very good friend works for a petroleum company in Virginia, and he said that VA is out of gas even though the media hasn't disclosed this information yet. I want to be skeptical as to the validity of this info, but it very well could be true. I can't even imagine if I won't be able to go to work because I can't get any gas! I know it probably won't get that extreme, but this all just really sucks.
And yeah, I remember the good ol' days when gas was $.89/gallon.

SSS1365, my step-father is in a similar situation as you - he travels 72 miles round trip per day to get to work (and starting next week, I travel between 70 and 100+ miles round trip two days a week to go to school )
I decided to go fill up my tank today and "survey" my town - we live about 45 minutes NE of San Diego, and gas prices ranged from $2.89 to $3.09 for regular - all within a mile and a half of one another (if that)!
I remember getting gas in college (only 3 years ago!) for .95 per gallon!

Charlotte gas has hit $3.69/gallon. Four of the five stations on my way home from work are closed.

I have not seen any for $3.69 except for the premium. But I did see a closed station on Independence.

Okay, I need to rant, and I really don't care if what I say makes any sense.
I am so angry and upset right now. Charlotte and NC offficials are telling us not to panic, gas is available, but I don't see it. As I mentioned in my previous post, 80% of the gas stations on my daily route are closed. Six of the seven gas stations on my office manager's route are closed. The officials are asking us to not get gas unless we need it.
I want to know where these stations are that are open. If you are that low on gas, how are you even going to be able to drive to stations that are open if they are out of your way?
I am upset because we were supposed to make a trip home to see my parents this weekend. Now, we won't be able to, so we can't see them until Christmas. My father is not well and my mother told me last night that he is disappointed that we will not be able to come down. And damnit, I want that dining room table. It makes me angry and frustrated (and then more angry) that there is nothing I can do about it.
I won't even get started on what the gas prices are doing to my budget.

Wow I found gas for 2.69 at Costco at Barrett and I-75. Even though I don't need gas I topped my car off because it is a good deal seeing most places are above $3.15 here.

The gas station right by my house was at $3.25 this morning. Two other gas stations nearby were out. I might just take a ride up to Barrett Parkway. They always have inexpensive gas in that area.

I stopped at 3 stations here in VA this morning that had gas for $2.99 and none of the pumps worked even though it seemed like the normal pay at the pump function was working. I ended up paying $3.16 down the road because I needed gas to get to work.
Now this cracked me up:

I just heard that the Governor of GA did a press conference and indicated that there was a temporary suspension of tax on gas in the state. This should reduce costs, or at least hold them static.

Gas is crazy here too. I left for work this morning- the first station I passed with Conoco at $3.05--- I thought I would drive on to QuikTrip. QT was 2.99 last night and they have better pop and ice. I get to QT and it was $3.20 (as were the surrounding stations on the other 3 corners). I decided to wait for gas until after work.
When I came home tonight it was still 3.20-- I drove my again after running errands all evening and gas dropped to $2.99 again. I am not sure why--- I wondered if they are cracking down on gougers or what--suspended gas tax--who knows. I still need gas but I am not looking forward to filing up my SUV.
We have to drive to St Louis this weekend for a wedding and the thought of what I will spend on gas is almost frightening.
The news here is reporting that we can expect to be paying $3.50 a gallon by Sunday here in KC, and $4 w/in a week. At the rate we are going I think I should quit my job---something has got to give!

I know here in Va. Beach we still have gas. They are charging over $3.00 for it. My parents are going to leave to go home to Savannah on Sunday. Can anyone tell me if there is little gas to be found on I-95? I would like to warn them if that is the case.

Gee, and I felt like I was getting a deal at $3.19. Are you sure they just hadn't changed the $2 to a $3 yet? LOL
