Thank you, Amy! Actually, I'm a dropout from OU, who majored back then in partying! However, I've 'earned' my Ph.D (Piled Higher and Deeper) from the University of Hard Knocks.
Back when I was an undergrad, it was relatively easy to get into OU; it's much more difficult these days. It ain't just USC where you're buying your degree... it's everywhere you go. Unless you are competitive enough to get a free ride (with strings attached) to the service academies or are academically or athletically talented to earn a scholarship, we're all standing in line at the bursar's office at the beginning of every semester, writing a check for tuition or putting yourself in debt with student loans.
To k* - word of friendly advice from one Sooner to another... resist the temptation of the easy gamble, whether sports or any other form of gambling. It's way too easy to get in over your head putting money 'where the action is'. The Vegas oddsmakers blew it, expecting a close game. (They had USC at -1 shortly before kickoff, according to my younger brother, who's a casino supervisor (boxman/floorman) in Vegas.)
Having once lived in Las Vegas, where there's a slot or video poker machine on every corner, it's entirely too easy to fork over a paycheck in the minute hope of coming in for a windfall. Play long enough, and eventually the casino's odds will grind out your winnings to nothing.
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the occasional play at the slots and the tables, but I learned a hard lesson - never play with 'scared money', that is, NEVER play with money you can't afford to lose. If you happen to be lucky and hit a jackpot, more power to ya, but realize for every jackpot millions more have sunk in money and gotten little or nothing in return. Those little tokens and chips may not look like much, but inside the casino it's the equivalent of cold, hard cash, which are technically worthless once you leave the casino without cashing them. (I have a small collection of $1 and $5 chips from Vegas casinos.)
Anyway, my two cents' worth, before taxes take 'em all away.

And it requires much more than a pulse to get into OU. OU leads in the nation in National Merit Scholars, because they get a free ride. I should know, I am one of them. And for your information, I applied to socal, and got in. I just chose to save my trust fund for graduate school, because I didn't want to owe money for my last year of undergrad, which is what would have happened at socal!
Btw, I fully admit that USC won, but I still think that OU did NOT play their best. The rumors, whether they are true or not, would be a convienient reason for that. I never said that USC didn't play a great game. Give me a break, I'm a fourth generation Sooner, the first shirt a wore was one that said, "Future Sooner."
Amy~ I was not trying to "start a war" with you, you caught me after I lost quite a bit of money on the game. I would be perfectly willing to drop it all, however, no one should have a superiority complex, it's not at all attractive.
And I realize that most of my behavior has not the most attractive, forgive me for having a stick up my ass, 700$ is a week's paycheck.

OK Kstar, we'll bury our hatchett now.
Sore winner--Interesting definition you have of that. How is someone a sore winner? I posted some big cheers for my school and did nto slam OU until you slammed USC repeatedly. So excuse me for being excited that my alma mater won. And maybe I came across as silly because I was soooo drunk and excited and happy when I got home from watching the game--hence my posts all over the place.

I hope that USC would have learned what happens to teams that have NCAA infractions, but I mean, even OU had to learn the lessons the hard way... And in socal where you can buy anything, why not be able to buy a National Championship?
Also, you're a college graduate, or at least in college, and you aren't from the South, never again use the word y'all.

DANG. Somebody ate ALL the sour grapes.
Which one of y'all did it?
Kstar, are you saying you ARE from the South? Cause Oklahoma is NOT the South. So, let us Southerners handle that, OK?
And if I were from OU - the school who boasts to this day that BARRY SWITZER was one of their head coaches - I'd keep it on the down low about Boosters and money and what have you. Maybe you can talk about your ex-coach or some of his players and guns, but not money...
Congrats to the Trojans!! Awesome win!

Amypussy: I should have known that you couldn't read between the lines, I mean, you bought (are buying) your degree. Also, calling me a little snot is amusing, considering that I don't have half the superiority complex that you have.

Bumping for posterity. What a little ray of sunshine!

Damn, that hurts! Val, are you as emotionally injured as I am at this moment?
BTW, just because someone buries the hatchet doesn't mean that their friends/people who respect them have buried theirs.

I really wish Amy was here to see this. Damn her for being away.
I think this calls for a bottle of wine and a celebration because surely she'd be laughing her ass off too.

Of course, when a college team plays a pro team, what else do you expect?
*snicker* Of course, I'm not impliying anything about the University of Spoiled Children... But they should be aware of what happened to other schools that did that...
