Ok Nicci19, that was hilarious!
My own thoughts, written for another listserv:
I finally saw the repeat of the awards show. My assessment:
1. Beyonce's Child: Ok, why was Kelly mean-mugging during and after they got the award? And WHAT was the getup they were wearing to accept their award?
They're so thin, but the dresses made them look old and bottom heavy. Additionally, it looked like they had to walk to the podium in a particular order, which I suppose they are ok with, but...
2. Jodeci: Okay...the first person who should be signed up for the Hazeldon rehab program: DeVante Swing...such talent...such a waste. But, there's always prayer. Jodeci overall, outside of Jo-Jo, was
a bit of a mess with the "Jodeci will win the award next year" stuff.
3. Little Bow-Wow: who did his relaxer? And where can I get his bling-bling? And finally, do you think he side-kick feels stupid pumping up a guy 10 years his
junior?
4. Mon'que was great! I loved her lines with Eric Benet and Musiq
5. Mary J. Blige: Okay, the dress was...well ripped and her bangs were too long and the wig was too blunt cut. But hey...it's Mary...I still love her.
6. And just to show you how easy it is to mimic black folks...Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilerra! Either we are seeing too many blonde rap/r&b singers or what, but they just looked like light-skinned black women on first glance!
7. Apparently you MUST have a record currently out or coming out in the next month or two and be willing to pump it while on stage continuously in order to be a presenter on the show!
8. Eve...took it to the next level. Just wearing or holding the t-shirt would have been funny. The "I'm representing" 5 times...not funny. By the way, I
thought that Hip Hop Female was the best stacked award...
9. Jay-Z. I liked the little show of unity with all the folks on the stage. I guess that's why he got to perform not one, but TWO songs! Rock-A-Fella Y'all...
10. Whitney...whitney...I couldn't figure out what everyone was talking about. I thought she was way too "Natalie Cole during the early 1980's" thin, but she sounded OK...UNTIL she got to "I will always love
you". Oh boy. I see what you all meant. Sad, sad, sad. And afterwards, I could barely watch how sad Cissy and Bobbi looked having to chaperone Whitney to ensure she wouldn't loose it. Yet another person who
needs to be a member of the Hazeldon tribe.
