In my case, 10 months after I first joined the Reserves, I found myself face down in the dirty seeking cover from Croat fire in the Medak Pocket.
For those interested here are some links to papers or reports of the action:

Yes we suffered casualities, yes we were engaged in combat for hours, yes we were witness to atrocities... however I don't remember any of the Canadians (or the French) deciding to execute/murder any of the wounded that we came upon... men who had quite likely been shooting at us a short time ago - we treated them just like any other wounded: professional and with respect.

Did YOU? Great that YOU did. YOUR country must be very happy.
By the way, the situation there was different.
By the way, many have accused your country as well as the other members of NATO as commiting war crimes because of actions taken in the former Yugoslavia (where you served). In fact your country being there was a violation of Canada's own domestic law. You participated in a war crime and it seems you fired in anger you just admit.

Wow I had no idea that serving under a UN mandate (not NATO like you seem to think) was a violation of Canadian domestic laws Please point out how I violated Canadian laws... because otherwise you sound like a moron.
By the way, all situations are different, but some share similarities.... the treatment of wounded enemy combatants did come up - they were shooting at us; they were "liquidating" the civilian/non-combatant population and territory; we suffered wounded and were "keyed" up - yet we respected the whole "rules of war" thingy.

I'll be glad to Mr. Ignorant who doesn't read. By the way I didn't say you were serving under any mandate so learn to R-E-A-D.
Aside from the many reports written by HRW and other human rights organizations, this is from a Canadian law professor:
http://www.fantompowa.net/Flame/mandel_canada.htm
"The war's illegality is not disputed by any legal scholar of repute, even those who had some sympathy for the war- for instance, Mr. Mendes in his presentation to this Committee. Of course, Mr. Mendes calls this a "fatal flaw" in the UN Charter. "
The Canada Defence Act, in so far as relevant reads as follows:
31. (1) the Governor in Council may place the Canadian forces or any component, unit or other element thereof on active service anywhere in or beyond Canada at any time when it appears advisable to do so
(a) by reason of an emergency, for the defence of Canada; or
(b) in consequence of any action undertaken by Canada under the United Nations Charter, the North Atlantic treaty or any other similar instrument for collective defence that may be entered into by Canada.
"It should be also noted that the preliminary decision of the World Court last year in Yugoslavia's case against 10 NATO countries, including Canada, does not in the slightest contradict this. As Mr. Matas has pointed out to you in his statement, this decision was taken on purely jurisdictional grounds, first the United States' shameful refusal to recognize the World Court's jurisdiction in general, and second Canada's objection to jurisdiction in this specific case. But it is worth quoting some paragraphs from the decision of the Court:
15. Whereas the Court is deeply concerned with the human tragedy, the loss of life, and the enormous suffering in Kosovo which form the background of the present dispute, and with the continuing loss of life and human suffering in all parts of Yugoslavia;
16. Whereas the Court is profoundly concerned with the use of force in Yugoslavia; whereas under the present circumstances such use raises very serious issues of international law;
17. Whereas the Court is mindful of the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and of its own responsibilities in the maintenance of peace an security under the Charter and the Statue of the court;
18. Whereas the Court deems it necessary to emphasize that all parties appearing before it must act in conformity with their obligations under the United Nations Charter and other rules of international law, including humanitarian law. "
You sir commited a war crime by participating.
On top of that there is the fact that you evidently shot out of anger just like you admited on here. I don't know why you weren't jailed up for that with the abuser of the Somalian, but hey I'm not a Canadian nor do I want to judge you or your country on how they should deal with you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
<breathe>
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
<catch breath & get back in chair>
Thanks I haven't had a good solid laugh like that in a long, long time.
Please make note of the IRONY/STUPIDITY of your above statement (edited down for ease of reading). You will note Section 31. of the Canadian Defense Act allows for the deployment of Canadian military forces under the auspices of the UN - sooooo I'm a little confused If I was there under the mandate of the UN... which is specificially named as a legal use of the the military... then how was I violating Canadian laws?

Go to the link Mr. Ignorant. When someone like you can't read and can't think like you, I guess they sit there and laugh. Keep breathing and laughing.
So please next time if you're going to use the word "stupidity" in the future, make sure it follows "i am the embodiment of".

You just had a quote about me checking to see if he's a law professor and then edited it out.
"I am a professor of law at Osgoode Hall Law School where I have taught for 25 years."
There you go Mr. Ignorant who doesn't read.

Please stop... my stomach hurts from laughing.....
Perhaps you should read the link you posted... and how it refers to the NATO involvment and not the UN's...
I was there under the UN not NATO I say again UN not NATO (they came around a couple years after).... or at least I assume why I was in the big white vehicle with the big UN flag....
This is too good....

Even if you weren't there under NATO and under the UN, your country was a member of NATO and the prime minister as well as its military commited a war crime. Get that in your head.
Laugh all you want. You even couldn't read that he was a law professor. I bet you're sitting there laughing at how ignorant you looked when you couldn't read.
As for the United Nations on war crimes well they are selective in classifying something as a war crime aren't they. Heck the entire organization is biased in how it views certain acts; for example, let's look at the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations where Sudan was elected a member UNCONTESTED!
"A government that engages in wholesale abuses of its citizens should not be eligible for a seat at the table, especially a country just criticized by the commission," said Joanna Weschler, U.N. delegate for Human Rights Watch, one of 10 advocacy groups that issued a protest statement. (Reuters) ( http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...2§ion=news)
Other members have included: China, Cuba, and Pakistan, Algeria, Syria, Libya, and Vietnam.
Bottom line under NATO, your country, Canada commited war crimes.
Under the United Nations, war crimes were given an approving wink and allowed to happen.

I've had enough.
We go out of our way on this board to respect the men and women who serve in our armed forces.
People who have or are serving in the Canadian Defense Forces deserve no less.
Let's put an end to this.

If you've had enough, say something to him. Of course you won't because even though you didn't mention me by name, you mean you've had enough of me.
He wants to judge American soldiers and won't stop. He went on to call Iraqi terrorists "freedom fighters" and call people who disagree with him "the fucking apologists" and "Arm chair generals". I suppose you didn't have enough of this.
What did I do? All I did was point out the war crimes commited by NATO members, including Canada as well as the war crimes commited in Somalia by Canadian military (this on top of the farce of the UN's supposed objections to war crimes and support for human rights). This is all on top of this one member of the Canadian military who comes on Greekchat to threaten someone's life - a man who tells me to find out why he isn't in the military anymore - and now is talking about honor and rules.
