Thursday is totally just like Friday here at Bama.

All the greeks have their swaps, aka themed socials/mixers on Thursday nights.

I sometimes go out on Tuesdays too.

Oh man, when I was a frosh, that was the first thing I learned...you could feel it in the air that the whole campus was getting antsy on thursday afternoon.

Here in Nebraska, all the chapters have either "froshes" or "sophs" on thursdays. Basically the appropriate pledge class from a fraternity and a sorority (either freshman or sophomore) get together and party. Froshes are usually every week, and always involve some sort of sober activity before hand. Sophs are usually just drinking and much more low key.

Hell our pledges are expressly forbidden from drinking only from noon sunday to 5pm on thursday, just so that they can have a good time on thursday nights.

That said, most people are responsible when they have papers or tests due on friday. Last week was the first round of midterms, and I couldnt' get anyone to go out on Thursday night. My friends that are bartenders were amazed how dead everything was last week too.

Now that I'm 21 and I don't have anything to do on Thursday mornings until 11 (when I volunteer at the hospital and can be hung over) Wednesday is my new thursday night.

Thursday has definitely been the "new Friday" since before I started school in Aug 99. Just like BetaRulz, that was one of the first things I learned. I always tried to have late or slack classes on Fridays.

And I graduated with two bachelors, in four years, without having classes 5 days a week.

Different people have different schedules - as someone before said, it's time management. Just because you had 5 days doesn't mean that it's the ONLY way.

Here in Miami, Thursday is college night at the Grove, thats the area that most of the bars are at... south beach i think also has college night (not sure) but almost every college in Miami (FIU, UM, MDCC) all go to the grove..

SOOOO Most everyone schedules their classes so they dont have classes on Friday...BUT if you get stuck and have no other choice, it is usually best to have afternoon or later classes so you can sleep late in the day go to class in the afternoon and be done in time to go out again.

I havent participated in a Thursday college night in a while but thats cause I have lotsa work to do at the elementary school all day on Fridays

After freshman year, I just never had classes on Friday. Most of my classes were night classes or late afternoon too. That was just how the teachers in my major did things. I know a lot of business students who rarely had Friday classes even offered too.

I actually liked that better bc I would go out Thursday and Friday nights so that Sunday I spent all day working before the week began again.

I think like most people, when you go out is dependent on your work load that week. You could always tell that things were in a cycle. There would be a week when it was dead bc people had a lot of tests and stuff that week then the next week it would be packed bc you had a while before you had tests again.

Also, going out doesn’t mean you have to go drink or anything at the bar.. I would go out during the week sometimes just to take a break if I got my work down for the day. It was nice to relax sometimes too. I do that during the work week as well now.

Oh man, my only 8 am class ever, intro to photography, was only offered at 8-11 am on Fridays. That. Sucked. More often than not it was roll out of bed at 7:45 [hungover, natch], throw on a hat and then haul ass to class. Thankfully, we were never, ever there the entire time so I could go home, nap and get cleaned up before my next class. I'm also very glad I opted to take Journalism Law over the summer (that was another 8 am only class during the regular semester).

Thursday was/is a popular mixer night especially for freshman/sophomores-- "Thirsty Thursdays."

The only thing classes on Friday are good for are going straight to FAC afterwards. I miss FAC. I miss college.

I'm guessing you were here before George Belitsos and the Teetotalers got the Ames City Council to pass a 21 and over ordinance regarding the bars?
Now the only place a fresh/soph could get into would be Boheme since it's designated "private club" based on percentage of sales that are food and non-alcoholic.

Oh- and both Paddy's and People's have Buck Burgers on Wednesday.

"Thirsty Thursday" is our official title for the debauchery that occurs every Thursday night at my house.

We're even thinking of getting shirts made.

Ames bars have been 21 and over for many years. A lot of people got in with fakes, but they've never been like the Iowa City bars. People's was the only place you could be in and be under 21, you had to be with your parents and you had to leave at 8 (I think or maybe 10.) I was referring to socials/mixers with the Fraternities on Thursday nights for freshmen/sophomores.
