I guess you and it didn't work.

DC does have the best public transportation system ever - my mom and I had it figured out within a day.

DC is awesome I would like to move back and not live in my parents house, but the rent for studios is around $1000. The housing market here as in many cities is ridiculous. Im thinking of setting up a tent and live on the mall when I graduate.

Spoken like a true Clevelander -- or as we used to call it, "The Mistake on the Lake." At least the river doesn't burn anymore.

Seriously, I like what Cleveland has done to clean itself up. Despite some of it's reputation, it's a really neat city.

Truth is that Columbus has a lot going for it and always has. It was, and maybe still is, the top test market in the nation because of the diversity (not only racial) of it's people and the cross section of economics -- everything from heavy industry to agribusiness -- with a huge dose of high tech and research with Ohio State and Batelle Memorial Institute. It has a lot of big city advantages, but with a fair amount of small town roots as well.

My biggest problem with Columbus is it's obsession with Ohio State -- but that is an economic issue to some extent as well I think. Here's my theory. When you think of the foremost cities in America -- they almost always have a major sports franchise. By that, I mean NFL, NBA, MLB. Columbus only has the NHL -- which itself is struggling. The reason Columbus doesn't have one of them is a matter of sports dollars. Within two to three hours in any direction, you find Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis. There just aren't enough sports dollars to justify a team in Columbus.

But why am I talking about Cleveland? It's not a capital of anything.

Now, to address the Austin vs. Madison debate. I've spent some time in both and they are each spectacular in their own ways. I would have a tough time choosing between the two except to say that the area surrounding Madison is gorgeous -- much more so than Austin in my opinion.

As for the water park -- if you're talking about SeaWorld, isn't that really closer to San Antonio? I directed a large part of the TV show when it opened twenty years or so ago.

Although, it did have the Peabody hotel - and those are awesome!!!!

They have better places to put a capitol.
No they don't...

Madison is my absolute favorite capital city in the world . . . and a number of those magazines that make random lists ranking things usually agree with us. Almost always ranked high in Money magazine's top places to live in the US, recently the winner of Sports Illustrated's best college sports town award, some men's magazine claiming us one of the healthiest cities in the US (YES, in Wisconsin -- I am not sure I believe it either), another magazine just conferred some award on Madison for being the best place to own a business or somethign -- and these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Kitso, have you ever BEEN to Madison? I think you might like it -- there are a lot of similarities between Austin and Madison. But I'm not going to bother getting into a pissing contest over which capital city is best (of all the lame arguments . . . ) because I think both Austin and Madison are great and I'm happy with where I'm at.

One thing I LOVE about Madison is that it's so close to the Twin Cities, Milwaukee and Chicago -- so anything Madison lacks, like a big local music scene, can be found there. The Twin Cities has the most theaters per capita in the US (I saw my first opera there, some great dance, and wonderful theater) and a great music scene. Of course Chicago has amazing music and museums and food and stuff going on all the time. And Milwaukee has Summerfest -- what more could you ask for?

I also love Denver and Austin. My daddy wants to move to Austin when he retires, which he would have done earlier but he knows the rest of the family would have killed him. I think he imagines it being like Madison but with warmer weather. I can't think of any capitals I really hate, although there are a lot that are disappointing.

Why you hatin' on Monkeytown?

Yes Montgomery is rather icky, but don't be hatin'.

I vote for Jackson, MS. That's a sh*thole if I ever saw one.

LMAO I was totally gonna chime in and say Little Rock but ya beat me to it. Yes, it does suck! NOTHING in that city. Absolutely nothing. And I'm an Arkansan, so I tell the truth. LOL

Haha, it's true though. Although there are certainly nicer cities...like Fayetteville or Hot Springs.

Where does your family live?
