Sorry to bust in, but have you all heard the latest on Britney? It's from the gossip section, so take it for what it's worth...but still...she needs a good slap.
From MSN:
Is Britney Spears preparing to one-up Jennifer Lopez in the quickie marriage department? The New York Post claims the pop starlet, 22, who's currently hobbling around on crutches following recent knee surgery, has accepted a proposal from scruffy boyfriend Kevin Federline.
"Kevin was with her throughout the whole surgery and by her side the whole time," Spears' rep tells the paper. "She's pretty lucky to have him, but I don't know if she's engaged or not."
So are the inseparable lovebirds about to fly off and get hitched?
Britney's overworked mouthpiece tells MSN Entertainment, "As far as I know, she is not engaged," a statement that has "plausible deniability" written all over it.
Britney and Kevin, who have been dating for two whole months, are reportedly living in the singer's New York and Beverly Hills homes as she recuperates from her injury, which forced her to cancel the U.S. leg of her Onyx Hotel tour. (According to People, Spears is out between $750,000 and $1 million for each of the 37 nixed dates, along with the hefty earnings she would have pocketed from the baby doll tees and other concert merchandise.)
Both parties bring plenty of baggage to the nascent relationship. It's been barely six months since Britney handed in the name Mrs. Jason Alexander after using it for all of 55 hours in January, while Federline is awaiting the birth of his second child with "Moesha" actress Shar Jackson.
Despite Spears' recent difficulties -- the lost income, the knee injury, the apparent Cheeto addiction, and the critical jabs from European critics who accused her of lip-synching (though her single "Everytime" is currently No. 1 on the British charts) -- she's quoted in People as telling a friend, "If only people knew the truth, they'd be jealous. I'm happy and in love."
Still, after such an emotional year for the fragile diva, we're wondering if the rumored nuptials call for a gift ... or an intervention.
