Low budget DOESN'T necessarily mean money, perhaps I should stop using regional slang. But ih, if you're worth 2bucks yep you're low budget in every sense of the word.

Sorry, I missed it in the flood of posts. My apologies.
Not sure how today's members are ALL that different from those of 30 years ago. The same problems existed, none of this stuff is new, except now it's much more open. There was still rape, sex, excessive drinking, etc. But now it's not kept behind closed doors as much. And madmax is actually right, the prevalence of our "i'm going to sue" society isn't helping much.
And as an aside, what's up with the insults towards people in this discussion? I was just being silly about the $1.99 then, then you tried to turn it into an insult. You also were nasty to Russ and Moe.Ron. Not necessary, and it weakens any statements you have to say.
I also find this even more interesting because you are not yet a greek, you are a prospective. You're making quiet bold and authoritative statements for someone who does not yet have letters. Normally it can be interesting to hear an "outsiders" perspective, but you're speaking much to authoritarian for that.

Lady Pi Phi, you have come to an interesting conclusion. One that many have thought before, and I feel will think in the future. With any stereotype, some things are true, and some things are false. Some ideas apply to a few, and some ideas don't apply to any. It's tough for each individual in each organization to think about themselvesin the context of perpetuating the stereotype. Most people, when they do things that seem unbecoming to greek life, think of themselves as an individual.
However, I agree that our organizations need to look into themselves and figure out what we stand for, and how we can make positive changes while still being social clubs with selective membership (I for one would love to see greek women support womens issues like part time work for mothers, and corporate day care, but sororities shy away from such politics).
I think what we need to ask is if GLO's influence behavior, or if they just reflect what is going on for college students in general? Sure their are rapes in Frat houses, but their are also rapes in campus dormitories and apartments. Their is also binge drinking by minors on cmpuses that don't have greeks.

Both, and I don't always know where one begins, and the other ends.

Uhhhh PLEASE
The 2 buck comment was a joke, and furthermore I wasnt RUDE to anyone, because I disagree doesnt make me rude.
Also, WTH does wearing some letters have to do with an opNIon? I am an adult, an American citizen, with access to the internet and a mind of my own. Seeing as all this is true I have the RIGHT to express my opNIon in anyway I so choose.
I doubt I'm making "quiet" bold statements....LMH
Also, seeing as I didnt ask you to agree you surely dont have to do so. All MY statements are MY opNIons. And I will express them whenever and however I choose to. I stand up for what I believe, I say what I have to say, you don't have to like it. And you having a couple of letters does NOT make your opinion more valid than mine. Dont be so offended about someone who ISNT greek says about your organization, or even if I was, you still shouldn't care. Are you insecure in what you believe? You have a problem with people questioning you and your org? That's a problem that has nothing to do with moi.

deuika, I do resent the fact that you think our organizations are not recruiting the best. If you know anything about the olden days, you know that there was less transperency and accountability. The reason why it seems that things is worst is because chapters are being taken to task. Also, there is new regulations and new laws enacted by both the national organizatons and the states that did not exist. That is the difference, fraternities and sororities are more transparent. The university, in many cases, no longer sweep problems under the rugs.
As for your right to say what you will. I agree, however, you should know that in this site, you rights end when John say it those. This, after all, is a private site.
As for the stereotype, I have my doubt we can do much unlessthere is a great shit in paradigm by both the general public and members. These stereotype has been with us for a very long time. Many of them are no longer relevent in some part, but others are very relevant. All we can do is live up to our ideals and know that we are doing the best we can do to upheld it. In the long run, we are mostly accountable to ourselve and each other, and not to the critics.

Well crap, I'm worth about -20k right now.
I'm from a big ol' family of GDIs, and my parents actually say they can see the positive changes in the Greek system from when they were my age. My mother attended the same school I'm at now and she's commented on how much better the system is now than it was 30 years ago. My dad thinks the whole thing is a little goofy, but he's happy that hazing isn't rampant like it used to be.
Deuika, could you cite some examples of how Greek organizations were better 30 years ago? I think sometimes interests get an overzealous view of Greek life - for example, from what I know of moe.ron's organization, they've turned themselves around immensly in the last 30 years...for the better. Countless other groups can say the same thing.
And no, you don't have the right to express your opinion in any way you wish. Perhaps some of our GC legal eagles can explain why to you.

When John informs me that something I said was illegal then your opinion of my thoughts will be valid, until then you can gladly keep them to yourself.
It's rather disturbing that you all can't take criticism, again, that is a problem that has nothing to do with moi. I have my opNIon and if you don't like it....so? You all should take that approach. I respect what others say and you should do the same, I ASSURE you I'm not the only person who thinks this way about the current status of Greek life, there are Greeks who feel the same way. You can't censor anyone's opinion, and you really only end up making yourself look stupid.
But, I won't argue, that serves no purpose.

Could you help me out a little, deuika? Is there some significance to "opNIon"?
Just curious.

Actually, most of us can take criticism, when its well presented. You made an absolutist statement, and backed it up with anecdotal evidence, compiled with a sampling of two people
Do you really expect any educated person to take that seriously? A sampling of just two people? Is that the best that you have with which to pass judgement on 30 years of American greek life?
You need to do much better than that.

Kuddos!
deuika, I admire you for the stand that you are putting up!
I for one have never seen such a diverse group come together to defend a position!
We cannot take critisim, oh little do you really know! We do it all of the time amongst ourselves on posts that everyone sees!
Do We Agree all of the time, NO! Do We have basic beleifs, Yes!
As you say, That is Yours and Our Perogative, that is why We are Here!
But I damn gaurantee you one thing, if anyone on GC was in need, there would be a whole lot of people here who would be at your aid!
Do we fight, YES, but here again We are here to Be Our Brothers/Sisters and Heck yes we fight, just like we are a Big dyslex Family! This is not anything about My Fraternity, So and Sos Soroity, it is just us! All Greek Members!
Do you have any idea how many Great People just myself have met here?
You are privlidgaged to be amongst The Chosen!
WaHoo Baby Oh Baby Mine, Just Keep Posting, you are a insight for all of us!
OH, It is Good To Be The King!
Should someone find the Tom For Pres. Thread. I Think WE Very Well Could Win The Election, but must get started soon for Campaign Finances, dinner fundings or what ever!

My particular organization has a good record in not recruiting "frat boys." Sure we still have problem, but by all acount, our overall national GPA is up, our risk mgt issues is down, even our insurance has not been rising significantly. Which means that my particular organization is not recruiting "low budget members." I can't speak for other organization because I do not know what is going on with their respective organization enough to comment.

I was $1.50, but that was quite some time ago. I wonder if allowances are made for inflation?
