Who saw The Passion?

it is obviously #1 at box office. wed/thursday- it made $41 million
fri/saturday- it made $76 million....for a grand total of $117 million+

I just got home from seeing this movie with my co-worker. It is quite the powerful film. I do encourage everyone to see it with their families. It is not however a movie that you would see as a social outing where you kick back and have popcorn and a soft drink. I actually had hershey's kisses in my purse for my coworker and I to munch on and just couldnt open my purse to get them out(good thing we ate some before the movie).

If you havent seen it but are planning to, please keep the following in mind. It is violent. It is gory. It is not for children or immature teens. It is okay to shed tears. It is okay if you need to close your eyes or turn away (you will still hear the violence and torture). It is okay if you need to step out of the theater. It is okay to ask questions. It is okay to ask why.

Also as a personal opinion, I did not see anything at all anti-semitic about this movie. It even says in there, or GREATLY IMPLIES rather, that the sins of humanity killed Jesus.

I'm still taking in this movie. It has impacted me enough at this point to make a few changes in my life, has given me what I needed to settle a particular family matter, and has made me quite...........I dont want to say anxious or uneasy.......but I cant really describe the feeling. My hope is I dont have a panic attack about it and vomit up my pasta I ate for dinner (which is what happened the last time a movie got to me a few years ago).

I'll post more tomorrow after I've let it sink in some more.

I honestly cant agree with this statement now after having seen this movie. The sheer torture that Christ suffered prior to being nailed to the cross itself was probably to an extent than having his hands and feet nailed. So I cant possibly imagine a worse death than this.

Well Babylonian impalement was pretty bad. They sat you on a pole with a sharpened point so that the point went into your rectum . . . gravity slowly killed you as the pole pierced up into your bowels. They also didn't beak your legs so that you died faster . . . I'll have to look up some other causes of death like that to see what was available . . .

The greeks had a pretty gruesome method of exexution too..... take two small boats, one man, and honey. Make a sandwich with the man as the meat and the boats as a bun, make sure to leave hole for head (like a stock), smear man in honey, lash boats together and set him adrift.... in around a week he should be eaten alive by magots.

Also, I cannot remember which culture did this, but I have heard about a person being tied to two horses and the horses being prompted to run in opposite directions ripping the person apart. That is horrible. I still don't think that compares to the long and constant torture that Christ endured.

Some of the other descriptions of dramatic executions do seem to be a bit more torturous, but who knows?

Mr A and I saw the movie Saturday.

Going to Mass this morning, and other devotional practices like the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration, and Stations of the Cross (especially that one....) has an entirely new profoundness and depth that was not there before.

This will be my only comment on this picture.

The best part of the outtakes was when the Roman dude forgot his line and then slip down the stairs.
