I went to colllege in the south and sorority girls dressed very preppy/conservative no mattter what.

It was the norm back in the early 90s to wear ( the usual uniform):

khakis, jean tops and a pair of eastland loafers and well of course a huge hair bow.

or a pair of jeans, eastland loafers and a sweatshirt or a sweater.

a pair of loafers, a cardigan and a skirt.....
get the running theme here

Now finals came and well i am sorry when you up 24/7 week long studying and taking finals i say all rules are off!

i have had some profs that are stragler then students and you kinda wonder where thehell your college tuition goes to whenthey get paid.

then i have the others who were stiff shirt wearing tie wearing prima nd proper dressed indiviuals

fast forward 2004..... anything goes ...comfort is key!

when i was an undergrad no one wore pjs to class. we wore adidas pants and things like that though. saturday and sunday mornings were different. you'd see pj's in the dining hall a lot.

i write this as i sit in a letter sweatshirt and adidas pants and just went to the deli to get breakfast

Just to clarify...the chapter voted for the addition to the bylaws because we wanted to put our best foot forward on campus...actually look respectable when we go to class; PR was the reason that we opted to pass a rule against it. The main problem wasn't sisters simply wearing pajamas to class, but more that they would wear pajama pants and letters.

My sorority loves our sisters no matter if they're wearing pjs, jeans, dresses, etc.

Would you force your biological siblings to only wear certain things? No.

Why should a sorority be different?

G Phi B is a great sorority, and my best friend is one. Her chapter must be more lax because I've seen GPhi's wearing PJs to class before.
Because at some campuses (included nydrms' chapter, not including mine), image is everything, and people were probably making snotty comments about "Look at those Gamma Phis always being in pajamas, blah blah blah."

Like everybody else has said, it's a standards issue. At the University of BFE, nobody thinks anything of smoking in your letters on the front porch. At the University of Deep South, that's probably a standards issue.

Even my chapter dictated what we could wear at certain times - like no letters to the bars/parties/etc, no obviously walking home from shacking in letters, etc. I'm fine with that. I knew it was coming when I joined.

Being from a commuter campus, it's not unusual to see people wearing pajamas, jeans, or dressed in business casual. I've heard it's not too unusual for people on other regular campuses to wear pajamas to class either.

I guess in Michigan it'd be hard to have a dress code, since sometimes we have to dress for survival!
