Thelma's Young Man.--Thelma is proposed to by a young Lou Gossett Jr.

The IQ Test.--Michael intentially gets a low IQ test score b/c it is culturally biased.

The Encyclopedia Hustle.--A blind man (Ron Glass of Barney Miller) cons the Evans family into buying overpriced black history encyclopedias.

The Gang part 1.--JJ is forced to participate in a gang rumble and gets shot.

The Gang part 2.--James and Mad Dog have a showdown in the courtroom

The Family Business.--James tries to make money by starting his own appliance repair business. 1st ep featuring Nathan Bookman.

The Debutante Ball. (my favorite ep--see above. Note: Clarissa is played by Rosanne Katon, Playboy Playmate September 1978).

The Dinner Party.--The famous dog food meatloaf/musical chairs switcheroo ep.

The Houseguest.--James' relative comes to visit and has a gambling problem.

My Girl Henrietta.--Henrietta comes to have dinner w/the Evans--pregnant!!

The Enlistment. JJ tries to enlist in the army to help with the family finances.

Thelma's Scholarship.--Thelma is given a college scholarship and is invited to join the Zeta Gamma Sorority as a token black. (Note: I'm surprised that NO ONE on this forum has mentioned this ep at all).

The Lunch Money Rip Off.--Michael is being bullied by a hoodlum who keeps taking his lunch and milk money so he makes peace by inviting the hoodlum to the Evans' to stay the weekend. This is the famous "extended family butt whoopin'" ep.

Talking man!!!!

i saw my favorite episode last night on TV-ONE. it's the episode where jj does a portrait of ms. brooks (tha wiggler) , a very attractive and curvaceous (sp?) woman. i don't know why i laugh so much when i see this one, but i do. i think i get tickled when james starts snickering and florida imitates him. when the phone rings and its someone who thinks ms. brooks is florida, james' response just CRACKS ME UP..."HAYLE NO THAT AINT FLORIDA!!"

ok, let me stop before this baby pops out .

That episode just came on this morning...and for those of you who have TV One, it will be on tonight at 6:30 (VCR Alert) and I am gonna tape it; it was HEE-LARIOUS!

Gosh how did I miss this post! As much as I love Good Times, I love that show so much, I don't think I have a favorite episode I loved them all. I have the "first season" on DVD, I hope I can find the second one soon.

'Ain't We Lucky We Got Em ... Good Times!!!'
Monday July 11, 2:01 pm ET

Good Times Launches on TV Land with 48-Hour Marathon Beginning July 23

NEW YORK, July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- TV Land will launch the
ground-breaking comedy Good Times to the network with a 48-hour marathon beginning Saturday, July 23 at 6 a.m. (ET/PT). Developed by Norman Lear, the sitcom was a spin-off from the hit series Maude and made its mark in television history as one of the most unforgettable comedies of its time. Good Times will air in its regularly scheduled timeslot of 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. Mon.-Tues; Thurs.-Sun. beginning July 25.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050711/NYM173 )

"Good Times had a truly tremendous impact on our culture and has
remained a beloved show," states Larry W. Jones, President, TV Land and
Nick at Nite. "It drew attention to controversial issues from an African
American perspective, yet at the same time delivered comic relief."

The series, which premiered on CBS on February 1, 1974, was set in the
projects on the South Side of Chicago and follows the lives of the Evans
family as they tackle such hardships as financial problems and
discrimination. Florida Evans (Esther Rolle) is the quick witted
matriarch of the household, while her loving husband, James (John Amos)
is the breadwinner and proud father. Together, their successful
parenting skills instill value, pride and morality in their three
children who are often bickering. J.J., the eldest son, is an aspiring
artist who became an instant hit with his catchphrase "Dyn-O-Mite."
Thelma, the teenage daughter grapples with school, dating and her two
overly protective brothers while the youngest, Michael (Ralph Evans),
delves into politics and education to become the family's scholastic
success. Willona Woods (Ja'net DuBois), family friend and next door
neighbor, appears frequently in the Evans household and is always adding
her wisdom and sarcasm.

Thumbs up WHEW!

Forget the DVRra. I'm.Going.To.Buy. Videotapes. For. This!
I can then clear the DVR of GT and have space to record Being Bobby Brown/The Surreal Life/QAF/ etc etc.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!

If I'm not mistaken, isn't there a movie coming out? I thought I saw something where old TV shows like Bewitched and GT were being made into movies.

I thought THIS would make a lot of folks happy. We talked in the Delta forum about the Good Times movie and had our own "casting call" so to speak.

And I'm thinking, Keith went straight from the football field to driving a car while the projects with his wife's family......didn't he have a couple of dollars stashed away???

And I'm loving that how everything Wilona and Thelma wore on the show is back in style. Because I love me some platforms, bellbottoms and applejack hats......

1) When the Evan's were about to get evicted and JJ comes up with a scam where Thelma has to say "Oh my, I'm so hungry, I think I'm going to faint!"

2) Any episode where JJ mentioned that he would just fiiiinnnnd things.

3) The episode where James is going to shoot pool to save the family (same one as #1) and when Florida stands in front the door, he moves her. She says "D___, that man always could move me!"
I have a new favorite....

Mad Dog: Who's the fox?
Michael: That's my sister.
Mad Dog: What's your name foxy mama?
Thelma: Thelma
Mad Dog: (Laughing) Thelllma! Where'd you get a name like Thelma?
Thelma: When I was born, my mama took one look at me and called me Thelma, just like your mama took one look at you and called you Mad Dog!

*I watch too much TiVo.

Anybody ever notice how Thelma was always trying to get married? I remember Larry, the OLD dude, Ebay, and Keith.
She was just fast.
