Y'Know, I really don't understand what the big problem is about GPA. You are in school to get an education. All you have to do is go to class, and study! It's not that Difficult. I mean, I am from a line of <<<<23 Levels of DSTinction>>>>, and our AVERAGE gpa was a 3.5! I don't see what the big issue is.

Life happens. You never know what somebody might be dealing with while they are in school that can distract them from their studies. It's unrealistic to say that all you have to do is go to class and study. And I'm not talking about partying and carrying on. I'm talking about LIFE. For some people, it can be just that difficult.

Just to add to some comments on the GPA requirement...

I totally agree with Ideal08, personal circumstances may hinder someone's GPA, but that doesn't necessarily mean they should be excluded from membership. Also, I don't think it's fair that a Homemaking major with a 4.0 is automatically considered smarter(on paper) than a Microbiology major with a 2.8. There are always extenuating circumstances.

And MY argument is that if your personal situation is that crucial, then perhaps maybe--just maybe--the LAST thing you need to be thinking about is pledging. That's all I'm saying. Sometimes the timing just isn't right and we need to determine our priorities. NEVER should pledging a sorority or fraternity take precedence over academics and graduating. We have people bussin' their butts JUST to get the 2.5 so that they can pledge--NOT so that they can be in good academic standing and graduate! Then, their grades DROP when they're "on-line" because they STILL aren't focusing on why they're REALLY there. What ever happened to the days when pledging made you more disciplined and your grades actually went up? Let me quit...

And I'm Out!

My sentiments, exactly, Soror 411. Ideal08, I TRULY understand about personal conflicts. But what happened to having the courage and strength to overcome situations? Imagine being an honors student, president of an organization on campus, a resident advisor, and all of a sudden, having the center of your world erupt because a parent dies of cancer. Instead of making excuses why personal conflicts could possibly influence your GPA, use that same energy to maintain and study harder.

And I'm not trying to offend anyone, I am just asking an honest question.
My question is this: If you can't handle A, B, and C, now before you are online (and cross), what makes you think that you can do it after you become a member. Because we as greeks all know that the REAL work begins once you are in. It's just that I get tired of people making excuses (and what are excuses?????) for why they have horrible GPA's and want to pledge a BGLO. It's about priorities, folks!

And if prospectives can't handle it, maybe they should focus on GPA, and decide
not to pledge until their ducks are in order.

Sorry, I have gotten off topic. I am passionate about this.
