It was a bad idea to put Christina and Britney singing together because it just accentuates how Britney has NO singing talent. She sounds like a little kid trying to sound like Madonna

You hit the nail on the head! You are absolutely correct!
It's not that it's okay for one to be provacative/sexual and not the other, it's just that Christina never pretended to be a goody-goody. Britney came out talking about how she was this sweet/innocent virgin girl-next-door and how she wanted to be a role model. Now she sees she can get more attention acting like a hoe...and that's how it comes off: as an act, as if she's forcing this sexy image. Yes, Britney is a good performer, but she is no where near the same league as Christina in talent. Putting them together on stage made it blaringly obvious.

Since not everyone puts on such socials, I'm not sure how we should all know the answer to this question.

Ok, yes in the beginning(Baby Hit Me One More Time) Britney was trying to achieve that good girl image. But if you actually read articles she says that she didn't want to go that direction. B/c yes she likes to dress the way she does, and she likes to act out and have fun and do whatever she wants. The problem is that in the beginning they totally took her image to a "goody - goody" level, that NONE of us could achieve. It was very unrealistic. When "Britney" came out and Slave was the first single in a Rolling Stone article Britney said "I do not want to be a role model. It is very sweet that people want me to accept this role. But I feel that I can't live up to that" ( not exact quote, but similar) Plus, come on.....who cares if Britney goes to a club and gets drunk. How many of us do that all the time? The media needs to get off her back.
Christina was awesome in the opening, but lacked a little in her solo performance. I'm glad I'm not the only one too, that feels Beyonce is a little too much like JLO.

Ahh... 1- glad my church doesn't discuss things like that (no offense) 2- a reason why I don't go to church at all.

Thank you! That was horrific of MTV. Say what you will about D2, but they really were the first big video band (and yes, they do actually play their own musical instruments!) Duran Duran was a crucial part of the development and success of the channel. Remember, MTV used to be all about music videos when they started, and Duran Duran was all that and a box of cookies for MTV. Good heavens, and all they got was a "surprise, here's your award, now let's give little Justin another award" for their achievements? It's a crime, I tell ya! It's a crying shame that they weren't properly presented their well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award with the pomp and circumstance that normally goes along with such awards. It's ridiculous that the audio didn't work and that they didn't fix it for re-broadcast either. I felt so bad for them, as well as for Kelly O. Say what you will about her, but at least she tried to pull off the surprise the best she could, when no one else in the place knew what the heck was going on. While I'm on a rant, it's even worse than Avril was up there, clueless little wannabe poseur girl that she portrays...nah, I'm not opinionated, am I?
Come on MTV, next time, do a better job. While you're at it, make it up to the band, because you wouldn't have ever been MTV.

(and while I'm on a roll--Hey MTV, next time give Roger more face time, would ya?!)

I agree with everything you said. I'm sure the band for one felt really awkward there with the new-age "alternative punk" bands, rappers, and teeny-bopper pop musicians (ok yeah I like them). As great as a band that Duran Duran is, they should have had WAY more prestige up there if they were gettin the Lifetime Achievement. They had their time up there of what, 2 seconds? Avril prolly doesn't even KNOW who they are! And then Justin once more.
MTV you fucked up big time.
BTW... who is Roger?

Roger Taylor is the original drummer for Duran Duran. He's 2nd from the left here, with the always yummy JT on the far left!

Not to be obnoxious, but Christina was working the girl-next-door image back in her "Genie in a Bottle" days, and Britney has stated in many, many interviews that she does not want to be a role model. Plus I am so annoyed with everyone getting on Brit's back about the virginity thing. She said at one point that she wanted to remain a virgin until marriage, but later she changed her mind. Plenty of us have changed our minds at some points too, right? But the press kept harping on it. She never pretended to be a virgin after she had changed her mind -- she told the press that she didn't think her "sex life" or possible lackthereof was any of their business, which is true. I think Britney made a smarter decision than, say, Jessica Simpson -- when she decided she wanted to have sex, she went ahead and did it and kept her mouth shut about it, rather than rushing to get married and so that she could do it with her parents' and the church's blessing and then acting like trash on national television.
That said, I thought the kiss was pretty gross. I mean, come on -- Madonna's old enough to be her mom. That's not hot!

I always thought Roger Taylor was the hottest in D2 (that's what we called them back in the day, LOL) and he is STILL the hottest, although the older John Taylor gets the more handsome he gets. Simon, on the other hand, looks either bloated or like he got all the bloat sucked out too quickly.
Re Christina/Britney...Christina has the talent. Britney does not. Period. And the songs they've been picking lately only points it out more. It's a total Tiffany/Debbie Gibson repeat...
Was I the only one bugged by the way the thing LOOKED? It was on film not on tape, and it was distracting to me.

They did that with last year's VMAs too, and I hated it. It just doesn't look "real" that way -- it looks like it's SUPPOSED to be fake.

I thought the opening act was soo good. Haven't seen Madonna at the VMA's in a long time. This year was soo much better than last year. I thought J. Lo was suppose to be in the opening act, except they put Christina in.. what's up with that?
