Yes it is too bad for her b/c NO BREAD is allowed during the Induction Phase. During that phase, only 20 grams of carbs are allowed per day, with most of it coming from leafy vegetables. The bread stick 1913CrimsonQT ate took care of 2.1 net carbs, but it's bread nonetheless.

1913CrimsonQT: Whenever you feel the need to snack, get an Atkins Advantage Low Carb bar. They fill you up, with most of them containing only 2 - 3 "net carbs" (the ones that count). I just had the Cookies and Cream flavor, and it is quite tasty. Do not purchase the Atkins Endulge snacks until after you are done with Induction.

Keep us posted.

I quit Atkins. But I've lost 4 pounds after quitting because I'm now in the gym doing cardio and weight training.

I tried that atkins Diet and I lasted about a week. I went into Carb withdrawl. My mom is on it and she has lost like 8lbs. in two weeks. I have been on the work out Program Body-for-life. Which is a book I forgot who it is by. It gives you a list of foods to you can eat which is almost everything except cheese. And the book shows you exercises to do. You work out and diet for six days and on the seventh you rest and eat what ever you want. So when ever you crave for something you can just wait for your "off day". The book encourages the use of supplements which I don't agree with but you see quicker results. When I was doing it faithfully I lost 5lbs in the matter of weeks. Needless to say I will be on it again soon! If anybody is interested there is a Website www.bodyforlife.com

Its a pretty good program.

Hey I am on the ATKINS

I just want to say that I have been on the ATkins diet for a month now. I have lost twenty pounds. For those who want to try this diet, please go to the website

www.atkins.com

Find out about the Induction, this is the first phase of ATKINS. GO to GNC, there is a 14 day starter pack with all the ATkins Vitamins, Oils, and things in there. Also invest in a cheap bottle of potassium and chromium. The only diet soda you can drink is Diet Rite. You can't have anything that has nitrate, or aspartame in it. You can have anything that has SPlenda in it. It is a great tasting sugar substitute. It tastes like real sugar. Also go in the shopping section of the website, and there are products that you can have. At the bottom of the product there is a box that lists the stages (1, 2, 3, 4, ) This let you know what you can have during these stages. You can't go over 20 carbs per day. You can't have nothing with sugar in it---only sucralose and spenda and sugar alcohol.

The Atkins diet is based on the Glucose Index, which is what diabetics use to monitor how their food intake affects their insulin levels. The science behind it is pretty dense and explained on the website and various places around the 'net, so I won't bother cluttering up the forum with details.

I can say that it works, though. My father has lost 50 pounds on it. No other wieght loss program worked for him. He was nearly 300 pounds and has early stage type II diabetes. When he learned about the Atkins/diabetes connection, he decided to give it a go, and it's been amazing to watch.

Did you know that Atkins makes low-carb bread and ice cream mix? It's nifty stuff, though expensive-- we're talking a $5 loaf of bread! But it's a godsend for my dad, who misses BLTs the most.

I myself have spent the last four months watching my caloric intake, limiting carbohydrates (especially sugar), and exercising like a mad woman. I've lost thirty-eight pounds and have twelve more to go to get to my goal weight. It's been hard, but it's so worth it.

Props to all you ladies for making the commitment for a lifestyle change. I'm there with you!

I'm about to start atkins next week. I'm going to head to GNC tomorrow and pick up the starter kit and some vitamins. I would start this week (i even registered at ediets for it as well) but I just remembered that my aunt is baking me a cake this weekend so I'm going to have a carb blowout weekend with cake. I'm really close to becoming a hypoglycemic and I have diabetes running in both sides of my family. The only problem I'll probably have is that I'm a sugarholic. At least you're allowed to eat whipped cream during induction, etc.

I didn't know you were able to eat whipped cream during Induction. Super Wal Mart has a lot of Atkin's products. They have the started kits and vitamins which are a lot cheaper than GNC.

I lost 40 pounds on Atkins. It is hard at first. I was so grouchy during Induction and even sunk so low as to sneak and eat the cut off crusts from my son's sandwhiches. Yeah, it was bad. But after the three days I felt GREAT. The sacrifice was well worth it to me. What really worked for me was planning ALL my meals/snacks in advance so I wouldn't have to make on the spot choices and give in to temptation.

This week I had to "de-program" myself because I found out I'm having a baby. I have to admit, it has been hard not to look at the carb count of the food I put in my mouth. But it also feels soooooo GOOD not being on a low-carb diet after several months. SWEET, SWEET FREEDOM!!! Now I'm on the "I-can't-keep-anything-down-why-do-they-call-it-morning-sickness-when-you-have-it-all-damn-day" Diet. Although I am not limiting my carb intake, I am sticking to the no sugar/caffeine aspect of Atkins. I'm trying not to go back to all my bad eating habits.

For those of you on Atkins with a sweet tooth, I recommend Ross Chocolates. When I got off induction, I bought some from lowcarbchocolates.com. All of the flavors were sooooooooooo good. The bars are much smaller than normal candy bars and cost more (like all the low carb candy bars), but you won't be disappointed. I've tried several low carb chocolate bars, even the Atkins bars (which I thought were kinda waxy and tasted yucky) and these are sooooooo much better. They're made with Belgium chocolate and taste LIKE CHOCOLATE. Well worth the price!!

If you don't want to buy in bulk like I did (I'm greedy ) you can order by singles or even find them on other low carb websites that sell low carb snacks. Ross Chocolates has their own website as well. I think they are located in Canada. I don't know if their website ships to the US.

Hey all. Sorry to crash your thread, but I wanted to jump in on the dieting "fun." Tomorrow I'm going back on my candida diet. The candida diet is very similiar to the atkins diet, but I believe it's a tad stricter. I can only have milk, veggies, some meats, and eggs. It's because of a medical condition that's making me feel sick and just plain bad! I'm going to need all kinds of motivation because I'm definitely a carb girl! I'm going to be posted my progress in my livejournal. Feel free to leave me notes of inspiration!

BTW, congrats to those who are succeeding on the atkin's diet! It's hard! I'm blown away by the strength of you all!
