As a division officer, and voting delegate representitive of our local alumni chapter, I voted for the change back to "The Rainbow" out of respect for our former Rainbow Fraternity brothers -- and also because I believe there is no place for homophobic reactions to a word which has come to represent something different than it's original meaning for our Fraternity. In addition, I am absolutely sure that EVERY fraternity (men and women) includes gay members, whether they are "out" or not, and I don't believe there is room for discrimination of any kind in our organization. I know that's not a universally popular position on GC, but it is one I believe.

Many of our chapters still use "The Rite of Iris," which is based on the Rainbow Fraternity Ritual. It is generally used during initiation week, but is now an open ceremony.
Wow! Good for you Delt Alum! What a way to make a stand!

By the way, ours is The Shield...

The Aurora.

Aurora in Greek myth is the Goddess of Dawn.

Side note: When NPHCs had the old pledging process, our pledges were called Aurora _______ (insert line name). I came in under the 'old' process and I was Aurora Persephone (my line name).

The Sinfonian.

It began in 1901 as The Sinfonian Yearbook. Starting in 1909, the Yearbook was supplemented by a three-times-per-year newsletter called The Mystic Cat. In 1915, The Mystic Cat became the only publication, and in 1917 the name was changed to the more "dignified" The Sinfonian.

We also have a newsletter for chapters and collegiate members called The Red & Black.

Let's re-phrase that: The oldest greek magazine, which just so has it, that it has been published continuously since 1872.

The Diamond

Psi Upsilon set the standard to be followed by everyone down the road by publishing the first ever fraternity mag in 1850

Here is an explanation that will clear up the Beta / Psi U. discrepancy:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

According to "The Fraternity Voice," published by the College Fraternity Editors Association (1998):

"The earliest printed periodical of Psi Upsilon was The College Tablet, published by Delta Chapter, New York University, edited by F.N. Zabriskie and E.C. Darlington and dated Jan. 15, 1850. There were six issues of eight pages, 6"x9". The proposal for an official periodical was made at the 1951 Convention with a budget of $800 for 1,000 copies. However, official consideration did not come until the 1852 convention, which rejected the plan as 'unpractical.' Fourteen years later, the Convention of 1865 considered the issue again, but it was not until 1878 that the first issue of The Diamond was published."

Thanks for clearing that up I'd been somewhat wondering about that myself. Nice to finally have the record straight in my head, as it were.
