The Beta Upsion Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity used to be the local fraternity called Iota Eta (I'm not Kidding) that was started somewhere in the 1920's.

The Gamma Omega Chapter of Delta Delta Delta was orginally a local service/social club, since my college did not recognize local greeks. They called themseleves TNKK.
TNKK sought national affiliation, and was turned down twice by the NPC. The college decided to make an exeption for this group and they became Alpha Theta Phi on March 21, 2002. Before Thanksgiving break, the members of the NPC announced to the sisters that they were invited to expand to become a national sorority...yadda yadda yadda...we were offically charter April 12, 2003.

Personally, I love how so much of our local history combines with our national history. We were granted the right to expand before Thanksgiving, Tri Delta was founded Thanksgiving eve. We changed our name 3 times, Delta means change. I just think its fun that all these coincidences happened!!! or was it fate??!!

edited to add: oh yeah-
local colors: purple and blue
mascot: angel
jewel: diamond
flower: daisy

edited to say: i REALLY REALLY need to learn to spell!!!

The Theta Chi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha started as a local sorority, Delta Sigma Delta. The girls decided that they wanted to go national after seeing Chi Omega, Phi Mu (no longer at GMU), AOPi, and Sigma Kappa (folded within a year) settle on campus. They allowed the NPC groups to come tell the Delta Sig's what they could offer, and in the end a petition was written and sent to ZTA asking to become a chapter. On October 18, 1980, the Theta Chi chapter was born I have no clue what their colors, symbols, or any of that were. It's impossible to search because Delta Sigma Delta is the name of a dental fraternity....

The Theta Psi chapter of Alpha Phi started out as a local organization in 1981. We were started as Alpha Phi Gamma (which I believe now is an Asian organization) modeled after Alpha Phi from the start. 2 of our founders were actual real life little sisters of brothers of Alpha Chi Rho who's colors are the same as Alpha Phi's. So while we were the lil sisters of Alpha Chi Rho, we modeled ourselves after Alpha Phi, taking on the same colors and symbols. We chose different flowers (red rose) and bird (the dove) but everything else remained the same. We officially became Alpha Phi in the Spring of 1996 thanks to our amazing 55 founders!

Chapter History... ZEta Mu @ Florida Atlantic UNiversity
In 1987 a group of 12 women founded a local sorority called Delta Chi Omega. By 1990 the sisters agreed to become a national sorority. They interviewed about 10 different national sororities and it seems fate kept steering them back to one; Phi Sigma Sigma. The Zeta Mu Chapter was granted their charter on November 16, 1991.
