First, I don't go to UF anymore but is an excellent Univ.

Thirdly, My response was not the least bit racial, from any aspect.
It's true....a lot of ghetto people do get their clothes from sports stores. Nelly, Jay-Z, 50-cent, Fat Joe, DMX, Eminem, Snoop.....you see them all wearing sports jerseys, head bands and etc etc.....Hell, they just made a song about air force ones for god's sake. I bought me two pair, does that mean I'm not racist anymore? You people are so beligerent. Seriously...think about what you're saying. My comments were based on what most people see on rap videos. The true thugs from the ghetto can't afford something nike or fubu....otherwise they'd be wearing the shit. My comment did not state anything about black people being defined by those types of clothes.....two of my best friends who are balck have never worn a jersey unless it was their college football jersey. There is a difference between being BLACK and being GHETTO. Ghetto people can be both white and black, as well as a spick.......

Meanwhile- I grew up in a pretty ghetto area of Louisville.. we even had roaches. So.... yeah, I pretty much think ghetto fab is a hip hop culture thing, not an urban racial thing.

Aggie, while you may find comfort in justifying one racial injustice with another, it really doesn't work that way. I have strong Cherokee blood and am very proud of it. I am appalled at the way the colonialists terrorized the Indigenous Americans. But do I think that minimizes another ethnics group's struggles? Not at all. Jews are still suffering from the effects of the Holocaust. Blacks are still suffering from slavery.

I think the reason that the plight of blacks recieves more attention is simply the sheer number of blacks in this country. The third largest minority. Native Americans, unfortunately do not boast these kinds of numbers, and therefore it is harder to create some sort of outcry. Also, think back to your education. Were you ever informed about the living conditions of this country's founders? No. You were told that the pilgrims came, held hands with the "Indians", and we had Thanksgiving. Not many people are aware of the plight, you know?

It all boils down to miseducation. Ghetto? Fabulous? Putting the two words together just doesn't make sense. MTV/BET, artists, and atheletes will have you believe it does, if it means money in their pockets, though.

OMG, roaches??? ilovemyglo, how did you ever make it out alive???

For the record, I grew up in what some might call a "white-trash" trailor park. I mean it was nasty. Deep South too. I have also lived in an a very low income area of town, what some might call the ghetto. Neither were particulary fabulous or worthy of a party theme.

As evidenced by the first post by UF_Pike, this party is probably asking for trouble. For the people that think a ghetto fab party is not just INVITING someone to do something like showing up in blackface, I say WAKE UP.
