I got my big last night! I'm so excited -- she's one of my favorite girls in the house.

Sapphire Sister Revealing
I just had to add my post about how excited I am because I'm getting a new Sapphire Sister. Yeah. We are revealing ourselves tomorrow to our new "littles" (shhhhh....we're not supposed to use that word).
I think I may have one of the largest families if not the largest now. We have family mascots and ours is the star. So in star family this is who we have: I'm a founding sister and part of a set of triplets. My two Sapphire Sisters that founded with me didn't get littles before they went Alum.
I have a Little from last fall and am getting one this fall
She took a little in the spring - my grand little just happened to be one of my best friends so I was happy when she ended up in my family.
My Grand little is getting a new Sapphire Sister too which will now make me a great grand big.
I love my family of Sapphire Sisters!!!!

I just got a grand little 2 weeks ago. Which is awesome, she just emailed me a picture of my big, my lil, her, and me. My family is one of alcoholics (just kidding, but we love a good party) and we alternate yankee vs. 'southern belle' ... haha, my big sis June is from GA, I'm from NJ, my lil lindsey is from SC, and my grand lil is from DE. Anyway, I'm excited! I hope everyone's famlies grow and y'all have fun!!

Y'all, I'm so stressed out about the whole Big/Little thing. On Sunday night, we submitted a list of three sisters that we might want as our Bigs. It took me FOREVER to decide who to put as #2 and #3, but I was sure of the girl who was #1... she preffed me and I think she would just be the greatest Big ever.
But tonight, I had my Phi study group (to learn the creed and other important stuff), and one of the girls in my group said that she had picked her too! I guess I hadn't even considered the idea that someone else might want the same girl as her Big.
So now what happens if EVERYONE on my list is taken by someone else? I tried to put down younger sisters, because some of the older girls might not be taking on Littles this year. I am very stressed about the whole situation... because I have at least two weeks until the Revealing. What if I end up with some random sister and I do not even like her?
AHHHHH.

Do you all mind if an OLD ( )alumna butts in on this thread?
I've been pretty active in Alpha Gam's extension and colonization efforts at Chapman University. A few weeks ago, the advisors asked the Los Angeles and Orange Junior Circles (our young alumnae groups) to serve as Pearl Sisters (i.e., surrogate sister-mothers) for the colony members.
I'm proud to let everyone know that I have two amazing little Pearl Sisters! They are darling in every sense of the word, and I'm even taking them shopping for their initiation dresses on Friday. (LOL, wish us luck on that!)
Its such a unique and wonderful opportunity for our young alumnae. We all feel like we're 18 again!

CarolinaCutie,
I guess in reality, you may not get the person you preffed #1 or even someone on your list. This happened to me. I was really shy after pledging and basically only knew one older sister very well. Her best friend from home was in my pledge class so basically she had to choose between us. She hand picked my big for me based on what she knew about me. It wasn't someone I knew, and yes, when I found out I was a little disappointed. BUT it was a wonderful opportunity for me to meet and get close to another sister who I may not have sought out. We were great friends and still keep in touch today (after, gulp, almost 15 years).
Keep your chin up! Your sisters will take care of you!

My little didn't get any of her three choices for her little...insted of taking someone she didn't know at all, she allowed someone else to take a new little (her's had transferred) and waited a whole year. And then my little was placed as first to get whoever she wanted/wanted her the most...and we got her! And my grand-lil is the best extension to our family!

Since we are just a colony we have twin sisters and I'm so excited about mine! She is a sophomore named Kristy and she is so cute! We are both legacies, we both have boyfriends named Chris, we are both from the same area, we both have majors that deal with children, and she is running for VP Communications and I want to be the Director of E-Communication (Webmaster, etc.) - so I'd be right under her and get to work with her all of the time! We are so perfect for each other! I'm so thrilled! And since we are just a colony we can start any tradition we want for our family! Any suggestions?!

In my house the new members get a new Heart sis every week for four weeks. Heart sisters get you small gifts, take you out, and hang out with you. Usually the initiates take their heart sisters out in groups, so they turn into big sisterhood events. Then after four weeks the girls write down all the girls they know in the house, and rank them in order of who they would want as a pledge mom. The initiates do the same thing and the New Member Ed chair matches up the pledge kids and moms! It's really fun- we have pledge mom night next week and I'm so excited!
We also have this thing called Guardian Turtles- an older girl in the house, usually a senior, will pick a pledge to secretly "watch" for the four weeks leading up to initiation. GTs give their pledges little gifts every week along with a note, and it's like a secret Santa type thing. GTs reveal themselves on the night before initiation- it's a cool way to get to know the older girls in the house. We also have a mentor program, where you get matched up with a pledge who has a similar major and curriculum to you, and you give her school advice and you have the option of studying with her and stuff.

I got who I wanted! But I was too afraid to list the name because I thought he didn't like me. So...there ya go. He is a great friend and limited the shots I took last night. Helped a freaking ton during pledging too.
