I'm really frustrated right now because I got cut really hard and I'm not sure why. I was told that I wouldn't be cut just for being a sophomore, but that is the only reason I can think of for getting cut as hard as I did. There were so many girls in my rush group that got their top seven, and I honestly don't feel that any of them have any more to offer than I do except for the fact that they'll be here a year longer than I will (I'm not saying that they have less to offer! -- but I think I have just as much). I really felt like I was having good conversations with the girls from these sororities and I'm not sure why I was cut from so many of them.

I've also been having tons and tons of fun with kids from my dorm, my intramural soccer team and so many other people, and it's making me start to question whether or not I really want to be in a sorority at all. I am having so many wonderful experiences even without being in one that I'm beginning to question whether I really want to be in one.

I'm sorry; I am just feeling insecure right now because of some things that happened this weekend, and now this getting-cut thing doesn't help. Right now I am just trying to concentrate on the fact that I got asked back to two of my top three choices and hopefully I won't get cut from them before Pref.

(Anyway, for those of you who do better with names than with numbers, in no particular order, I will be returning to Alpha Epsilon Phi, Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta, Sigma Delta Tau, and Delta Delta Delta.)

House #2: I still love these girls. I've been rethinking the whole Greek life thing, but when I walked into this house it made me think about what I'd be missing if I didn't join a sorority. However, I was double-rushed tonight and that always makes me nervous about whether or not I'll be asked back, because I don't feel like I make a lasting impression when I double-rush; I feel like I'm being overshadowed by the other girl. Their house was decorated beautifully -- it had a "sweetheart" theme -- and I just loved being there.

House #1: These girls were really far down on my list after the first round, so I didn't really want to go back. I liked them better this time around, but I still didn't really click with them.

House #9: This house was pretty far down on my list after last time too, but I had a lot of fun this time. The first girl who rushed me was awesome, and we bonded over our mutual guilty pleasure of pop music. We toured the house, and the rooms there are really big. Overall I liked these girls a lot more than I did before, but I'm still not sure about them, and my conversations with the other girls in the house weren't anything special.

Sugar and Spice,

I hope you continue to give rush a chance. I think many on this board feel your frustration and empathize with you. Please continue to give it a chance and if you still are in doubt then you don't have to sign your bid card. We are behind you with whatever you do decide to do .

Sugar and spice, I'm glad you're giving everyone a chance. I can't imagine how frustrating it must have been for you to get your invites. Like aggieAXO said, keep going and if you truly don't feel like it would be right for you then you don't have to sign your bid card. Good luck with whatever you choose and please keep us informed of what's going on. I'm pulling for you!

I had the same sort of feelings when I got cut a lot earlier than everyone else. I started to doubt whether I really wanted to be in a sorority and whether I wanted to go back to the Recruitment process. But I went anyway, and the next night, I realized that I really had a connection with ONE specific group of girls. I went to their Pref and I knew that I had to be a Phi Mu

So give it a chance... the entire week is a whirlwind of changing emotions and you never know when your opinion could suddenly slant towards a chapter you had previously disliked. And if on Pref night, you still feel like sorority life isn't for you... well that's OK too.

You sound like a great girl, and being a sophomore makes you better at time management, already involved in other campus activities, and more confident in your schoolwork. All of those things are great assets, and qualities that many freshmen don't possess. Be confident in yourself and see what happens

sugar and spice, 5 invites is not bad at all... don't beat yourself up. Of course I'm glad you're going back to AEPhi but you have 5 great options. Good luck, and keep your spirits up

Hey S&S, 2 of your top 3 choices is great! Don't forget about that! And if houses did cut because you are a sophomore, than who needs 'em anyway?

Try not to worry about who you aren't going back to and, concentrate on the great houses you are going back to! Like Chi Omega!!! Sorry, shameless plug! Seriously, though, you have 5 great organizations to choose from! Just have fun!!!! Good Luck!

Aww, thanks for all your support, ladies. I'm not as depressed about this as I sounded last night -- I know that getting five invites (and two of my three favorites) is definitely not a bad thing! I heard some horror stories from girls who only got asked back to three houses, so I'm feeling comparatively lucky to have five.

I don't know for sure that the reason I got cut was because I was a sophomore, but I know that recruitment numbers are up quite a bit this year and the sororities were probably flooded with really awesome choices of PNMs, in which case it totally makes sense to choose a freshman over a sophomore. I'm sure there could be other reasons why I was dropped too, but I'll never know what they were, and blaming it on being a sophomore is a lot less painful than worrying about why people don't like me or whether or not I'm pretty/cool/fun enough.

I'm going to stick with rush at least until House #2 drops me. If that happens, I'll re-evaluate my options then, and if they don't cut me, then . . . I did really love House #5 during first rounds too, but I can't really tell yet how comfortable I'd feel there -- I guess that's what tonight is for! And as for House #4, I didn't get a very good feel for them the first time around so I'm glad to be going back.

Thanks for helping me keep things in perspective -- I know things could be worse.

Hang in there girl! Hopefully you will really connect with one of these five houses for the remainder of recruitment! Like Carolina Cutie says, emotions and opinions can change on a daily basis, so please keep giving everyone a chance! I'm personally pulling for Chi O at this point (they have some great girls on our campus), but you have five great houses to choose from! Good luck with your parties today!

Last night I visited two houses.

House #5: I was so sure these girls were going to cut me after First Rounds, so I was thrilled when they didn't! I liked these girls a lot -- so much enthusiasm and energy. The first girl I talked to knew that I was a sophomore, and where I had transferred from before I even told her. It took me a little while to realize that no, she hadn't talked to me before -- she had been studying the rushee cards! They had a cute '50s theme.

House #4: I liked this house so much! I didn't really get a good feel for it the first time around, but the house tour helped a lot. The house itself is so adorable! It used to be the Governer's Mansion, and apparently the third floor (now bedrooms) used to be a ballroom, so all the bedrooms there have wood floors. And it seems like they have a really good mix of girls with lots of different interests -- when we were looking through the rooms, I saw posters of everything from Abercrombie hotties to Jim Morrison. The girls seem to be really involved with a lot of things, which is important to me, and one of the girls I talked to was telling me little things about the house, like how Fridays are her favorite days in the house because they'll all hang out and chill for a while after classes, and then later that night around nine they're all in the bathroom with curling irons and makeup getting ready. I like hearing the little banal details about Greek life and living in the house so that was really fun.

So I've done all that I could for now . . . now it's up to the houses to pick, and hopefully I'll be able to go back to a couple of my favorites for Pref.

Pref is tomorrow night!

Bid Day is Sunday, so there's a whole day in between to freak out about whether or not you'll be getting a bid.
