Well yep me. I'm trying to start a chapter as some as you may know from recent postings (somewhat slow progress ) What I didn't generally mention, though one or two of you know, is that this interest group is based at my university which is in the Midlands in England; I've spoken to one fraternity who have said they are interested i.e. would allow me to petition them (Phi Alpha Delta). I was really interested by your post as I hadn't heard about those other groups and just how widespread and ritualistic the dining groups were, gives me hope that the renewed hope my group is viable as I sometimes think about justamom's comment "I'm wondering if it may be a situation where the environment may NEVER allow a Greek system to flourish-Like trying to grow an African Violet in Alaska-it's just the wrong climate." - which was albeit made about a totally different topic. I'm surprised about the existence of dining clubs at Bristol too, as I know someone had at one point looked into starting a GLO there.

I'm also very interested in attempts to start GLO's in Europe. They're full of secret societies such as the masons, and GLO's used this as their model, so I'd assume it would really be nothing too new to them.

I Wish you the best of luck in starting this chapter. I always hear how hard it is to do, but I also hear how rewarding it is.

The reasons many have not expanded to Europe (pure speculation) are probably not because there's no interest.

I'd be willing to bet that there are legal reasons, conversion of currency type factors, etc. Also distance and travel for IHQ consultants (although going to Europe has been cheaper than travelling in the US lately).

I go to a Catholic University and we have Fraternities and sororities on our campus. So I don't think it is unCatholic or my university would not have them. I think we even have a Father as the advisor for Sigma Chi.
