Disclaimer: I'm coming from an SEC perspective, not a Texas perspective.

I actually sort of love the sequin converse idea for prefs. If the sister commented on your shoes (which I would expect, WITHOUT FAIL, to be some variation on 'how cute!' or 'those are so unique!' rather than anything negative - you are a guest in their home and their manners should prevent them from saying anything critical), I would respond with "Thank you! I actually hurt my foot, so I can't wear heels. It's so sweet of you to be cool about it."

And then the conversation will move on. No muss, no fuss.

I agree that this is the type of dialogue that likely occur regarding your shoes and then the information can be shared among the actives in post-party discussions.

This sounds perfect, at least to me. I'm not from Texas either, though.

Ha! That's what I was thinking! I broke my toe and had to wear a bootie to a formal event. It was no big deal, at all.
I just got out of a bootie thanks to a broken toe. I had to wear it to the Greek awards. Yup, it was glam...

Since I last posted in this thread, I broke my foot and am now wearing a hideous black boot. What I'd give for some cute sequined converse!

Fortunately, you don't have to go through rush again.

Hope you're on the mend and out of that boot quickly!

Yes! But when you're halfway through the bedazzling, quit in a huff, leaving half the boot unfinished....

Is that thread still available? It lives in infamy but I've never read it.

When I'm done adding pink sequins to the boot, I'll work on writing up my recruitment thread - and I'll make sure to include that thing!
