Texas truely is a great place and the lack of a state income tax is a BIG plus.
Sorry about some of you not being well received by Texans, but a large influx of people from Calif. and New York has tainted friendlyness a bit. It started back in the mid-80's when J.C. Penny Company relocated the corporate HQ from NYC to Plano, a northern suburb of Dallas. The New Yorkers did not act in what we consider to be a socially acceptible manner. As a result Dallas is not the same city that it was in 1980, and that is sad. It was the biggest small city in the country.
Not that it matters, but for accuracy sake:
Concealed carry with a license IS permitted in liquor stores. Unlicensed carry is not permitted in any business which sells alcoholic beverages, including convienence stores and grocery stores. Licensed carry is only restricted in establishments which derived 51% or more of their revenues from the sale of alcoholic beverages for on premises consumption.
Shooting in defense of property is permitted under the Texas Penal Code Chapter 9, Subchapter D:
§ 9.42. Deadly Force to Protect Property
A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; .......
