We had Rho Alphas-- they were girls chosen to help out in men's recruitment.

silly issue
i think changing the name of rho chi's is silly, but at our school (Texas A&M University) they are now being called Chi Rho's, or say it really fast and it kinda sounds like Cheerio....they are trying to kinda keep it like the old way i think. But I think a person would be able to determine whether they were a part of the greek system or an honor society buy looking at their resume

Iowa State still use Rho Chi for sorority recruitment ... and for fraternity recruitment, we use Greek Ambassador, or just GA. We don't use Greek Alphabet for the GA, though ...

I heard last semester that they were going to change it and they want us to refer to our former "Rho Chi's" as "Rho Gamma's" but I don't know if that has been said to anyone else but we were told by the panhellenic to do so..
Whateve, its gonna be Rho something..I really don't care too much I know the name of the person so I am not stressing..it is just a label they have, but you don't call them "Hey Rho Chi!" I mean they got a name don't they.

My thought. Why didn't we change them to SIGMA Rho Chi, for Sorority Recruitment Counselor. That would still fit in with Phi Rho Chi for Fraternity Rush Counselor. Then we could have still kept the tradition and if we slipped and said Rho Chi, it wouldn't seem so strange to the PNM. Just a thought

After almost a month of debate, our recruitment counselors will be known as Pi Chis. This stands for Peer Counselors or Panhellenic Counselors. We are allowed to have letter shirts made, but our bags say Recruitment Counselors. We were all pretty mad that we weren't allowed to go by Rho Chis, because we don't even have the pharmacy society at our school! Whenever I tell people I'm a Pi Chi, especially fraternity guys, they have no clue what I'm talking about and I end up saying, you know - a Rho Chi. Ohhhhhhhhh.... I agree, NPC needs to stop worrying about being so PC.

I have to admit, I think the NPC should have just said "tough patooties" to the Pharmacy group. It likely would not have gone over well at all, and let's face it, Greeks don't need any more bad publicity!
I don't see why there can't have the two things peacefully co-existing? After all, there are 2 Delta Phi Epsilons out there and they seem to be peacefully co-existing, while having the same letters?
Furthermore, if these people are in Pharmacy, surely they are intelligent people and can tell from the context of a conversation which Rho Chi is a "Recruitment Counselor" and which Rho Chi is a pharmacy student!

That Would Explain It...
Today is one of the many days for orientation at Georgia State and I noticed that the once "Rho Chis" now have the letters Gamma Rho Chi on their shirts. It stands for "Greek Recruitment Counselor".
I was confused but now reading this thread has cleared it up. The girls didn't look too happy when I asked them why the change.

I think we are a little of topic here. I dont think the issue was thinking they would confuse the two, although I have heard of crazier stuff!
I think it is because the group did request we stop using the term Rho Chi. It is just like any group, song, or company that has similar names.
If you recieve a request to change due to similar, or same names, it is polite and only right , to change. I mean it was a REQUEST not a demand. Let s not lose sight of this.

When the Adelphian Society went national in the early 1900's it adopted the name "Alpha Delta Phi." The men's fraternity of that name, founded in 1832, protested. The Adelphians changed their name to Alpha Delta Pi.
I've long been curious as to how that changed their motto and ritual. Greek words beginning with "Phi" are not the same as Greek words beginning with "Pi" (as Carnation has assured me
I was informed (rather archly) by an ADPi that their ritual has been the same forever and ever.
