Just thought I would let y'all know that there are MANY badges on E-Bay right now. KA, Alpha Gamma Delta, SAE, Alpha Chi Omega and many others. This is probably one of my BIGGEST pet peeves!
What ticks me off is these idiots who collect fraternity/sorority badges just for the hell of it! The badges have no sentimental value whatsoever to these people, yet they want them because they're pretty to look at or are valuable because of the gems used to create them. Ugh!!! The whole situation makes me sick! There are a million things to collect in this world, and these idiots pick a group of items that they legally have no right to own.
I will buy EVERY DZ badge I can get my hands on, and I will let other non-DZ bidders and the sellers know exactly how I feel about the situation. Thank goodness our sorority has a policy about rescuing badges and will reimburse us for what we spend to save them!
Sorry for all the frustration... I really needed to vent!!!!!!

dzrose93--
Unfortunately, I just found a really old D Phi E badge on ebay. It's going for over $200 already, and it still has 4 days left. I notified some alums who can afford that, and I hope one of them gets it. Wish I could afford it, as it's one of the old style ones.

Well as far as I am concerned, e-bay sucks!!
I bought something in good faith on e-bay and did not get, along with the other Brothers of LXA. I e-m e-bay and oops they changed their policy so we would not get screwed more! HA. I for one would be very leary of buying anything on their site!! Did not get what I paid for and never heard a thing about getting it! You can make money doing this!

Not to add fuel to the fire, but...
I got that email notification from eBay regarding the selling of our information. Starting May 15th eBay will sell our information to other companies!!! As if our mailboxes don't get enough junk mail! I like eBay and thankfully I've come across many honest sellers and buyers. being on eBay means having a little extra money for me.
It also disheartens me about the selling of our badges. There are many things that are prohibited from being sold on eBay: humans, human organs, porn (but I've seen enough of them on the auctions), and weapons...badges and anything sacred to our organizations should be banned too.

I'm gonna be optimistic about this, becuase its in my name. At least with eBay, you can find the Badges, and make sure they don't get into the wrong hands. Without it they would probably end up in an antique store in a bargin bin or something.

How do you get your sorority to take off things off of ebay such as pins? There is an antique Pi Phi pin on there, and I agree, that someone who isn't a member should have it. It's $90 allready...so I can't afford to buy it to take it off.

i'm really ticked now! i was looking on ebay, and not only did i find an LCA badge, which shows up periodically, but it's from my chapter, and it's so expensive i can't afford it. i'm going to try and get the chapter to buy it though.

Your national isn't the person posting the auction. It's most likely someone who bought the pin at an estate sale or something and knows they can score some cash for it. Your group has a blurb on their website about this http://www.pibetaphi.org/alum/alnewsarch.htm#ba, so check it out.

Just a note on the person selling the Lambda Chi badge Corbin. They are also selling badges from Delta Kappa Epsilon, Delta Zeta, Delta Tau Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta. I say you go kick butt Or you could always join ebay and then give him/her really bad ratings. I read their "me" page, and they are apparently antique dealers.
Good luck I found out that a sister is the highest bidder on our old D Phi E pin. Hope she wins...it's up to $232.

I have conversed with these folks thru e-mail about the DZ badge and found them to be decent people. I requested that they let me know first if they ever run across another DZ badge, and they were very nice about it. They promised to do so, and even told me that this was the only DZ badge they've ever come across in the 20+ years that they have been dealing in antiques.
So, my suggestion would be to send them a personal e-mail, doing what I did - telling them how sentimental your badges are and how important it is to you that they stay in the hands of a sister (or brother). If you are nice in your request, they'll probably be glad to notify you about badges in the future. GOOD LUCK!

Hi Everyone ~ I would like to bid on that DZ badge, but I have never been on e-bay before and I am not sure how the whole thing works? How do I even go about finding the site where the badge is being auctioned? Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi KillarneyRose,
Thanks for the offer to bid, but we've already got a sister working on it. I did some research through Nationals and found the original badge owner's most current address. We've sent her a letter to tell her about the badge and to find out how it came up for sale on E-bay in the first place.
Right now the high bid is from a fraternity/sorority pin collector who is NOT very nice. We've politely asked the person to bow out in previous bidding wars, and they have refused and been very rude about it. Anyway, one of our sisters is determined to get the badge, no matter what the cost. I'll let you know how it turns out!
DZ Love and Mine,
Carrie

shadokat-
That was uncalled for. You can ONLY give a rating when you WIN an auction. Thank god there aren't that many people with your attitude. I buy AND sell on ebay. I have had NO problems with the service at all. Some people don't understand what greek items mean to greem members. They're just trying to make a profit, not trying to piss people off. If they have a bad attitude, it's their problem, not ebay's.
To others who have sent nasty emails:
Just because you personally don't approve of something, it does NOT give you permission to harass people with emails. If you don't like an item up for sale, buy it or find someone to buy it.
Man, who here has ever heard of "Do unto others as you want them to do unto you."

OK people, calm down!! IT WAS A JOKE...did you see the smiley face?!?!? I've bought plenty of stuff off of ebay, and I've never rated any of the people poorly. So before you go attacking people personally, take a moment to realize you don't know the person.
