UKCATFAN, I hope your daughter decides to go to pref tomorrow. Hopefully a good night's sleep with also help her a little. I know my dd was dropped by 1 one house first cut and 3 houses 2nd cuts all of which she LOVED. She was upset this morning because she lost 3 of her favorites. But when I spoke to her briefly later today she was thrilled with 4 of them. I kept telling her that each day is a new day and to keep an open mind. So far that has worked and I hope it works for your daughter too.
nervousmom - hope you hear from your dd soon. Mine was suppose to all after their surviving UK meeting but nothing yet :/

While this has probably been mentioned:
A PNM only meets a small portion of women during recruitment. It is very hard to know a house of 173 (which is campus total at UK) after meeting maybe 10-15 women. If she goes through with Pref and receives a bid, have her try the new member period. It isn't an obligation to join, just a trial period where she will get to know the whole house as well as her pledge class. Pledge classes can change the entire feel of a house and she may really like them. I know it may seem daunting, but honestly, some chapters just do not recruit well.

Just spoke with my daughter is she is very happy. Had a very good day. She listed her 3 favorite houses. Her number 2 choice as we talked about earlier is not considered one of the "good Houses" at UK but she really liked it.
I can't wait to find out where she finds her "home"

The use of "good" is bugging the heck out of me. You know that there are people here who are sisters of those sororities you don't think are good.

UKCATFAN, sent you a private message. As far as "good" houses and "bad" houses as UK, I often think it is we mommies who get more caught up in it than the girls. Every girl, in every house at UK is beautiful, most of them know how to bet on horses and when March Madness comes around, they can burn a couch with the best of them. Kidding of course on that last point.

Shellfish, I know what you mean by the use of the word "good" being used to describe a chapter house. It is an uncomfortable word in this context because as GC'ers say all the time EVERY SORORITY IS GOOD! But, for various reasons, some sorority chapters are considered more desirable than others on a specific college campus. But, what is considered a less desirable sorority at one college, may very well be considered the MOST desirable sorority at another college! Go figure! And, really, all sororities as more alike than they are different!

well here it is 2:00 in the morning and I cant sleep.
I did not mean to offend anyone by using the words "good house". I was using this to say this was how they are ranked on Greek Rank. This house is just not ranked as one of the top 4 houses on this site. It is not my opinion about the house since I don't know any of the houses. Obviously my daughter does not feel that way either because she absolutely loves this house. I did not know anything about sororities when my daughter said she wanted to join one. I have been coming on this website and Greek rank to get an idea about sororities. My daughter on the other hand did not look at any of these websites because she did not want to go in with any preconceived notions about any of the houses.

Nervousmom, don't believe anything from "The Site Which Shall Not Be Named." It is absolute trash.
MaggieXi's suggestion was spot on -- take a look at the national and chapter websites of the groups your daughter has left. Each organization has hundreds of thousands of sisters nationwide who are filled with love and pride for their group and for each other.
Keep encouraging your daughter to go through the entire process. Pref is a very emotional, not-to-be missed experience. These are the groups that see something special in your daughter and want her as part of their sisterhood. Encourage her to see it through. She'll find her letters.

Go to bed, nervousmom! You need your rest too!
FYI Greek Rank is total garbage. Completely without a shred of truth or decency. Unfortunate opportunities for some immature people to self rank in a positive way, and to also degrade other sororities. Hurts all greeks in my opinion.

Hahah. I had never heard of this greek rank before. When I checked it out, I literally laughed out loud. First off, it doesn't even have all groups listed at several schools I looked at. The comments were laughable. VERY laughable. I'll have to go back to this site next time I need a good chuckle at the ridiculousness of it .

My favorite are the comments like "AKA? That's not even a sorority we have on this campus". It should be pretty clear these people are clueless.

Please, please do not rely on that other web site for information! All you have to do is read the side notes to know the site is untruthful and hurtful.

@nervousmom. That is "The Site Which Shall Not Be Named." To mention it will move it higher in the search engine rankings, which only makes it more visible. It's worse than tent talk, nothing but slanderous libel from anonymous bullies, haters, and rejects. Only people who were afraid of another chapter would post on there, and it kind of makes you wonder just why they are so afraid that they have to take the other house down.

Don't get me started on Greek Rank. I am a UK Alum and I have looked at that site. It's horrible and inaccurate. There are no "good" or "bad" houses at UK. You should have followed your daughter's lead and come in to this process without preconceived notions. I REALLY HOPE YOU ARE NOT TELLING HER THAT A HOUSE IS GOOD OR BAD. Rush is emotional enough without having your parents put pressure on you to get in a "good" sorority. I will say it again. There are no "good sororities" at UK; only houses that are a good fit for your daughter.
